December: it’s time for Laceno d’Oro. The graphic design of the 48th edition of the Festival depicts a woman in full activity: in winter everything seems to come to a standstill, but cinema makes room for the frenzy of images, signals, ideas, and colours. The mind and imagination to better welcome the spring to come, the future that unfolds.

The graphic design of the 48th edition of the Festival depicts a woman in full activity

For this reason, there’s nothing else to do but take part in screenings and masterclasses, concerts and meetings with authors, follow our film previews, discover new international cinema authors, or rediscover works of the past. And we know that the audience of Laceno d’Oro is keen to be open, informed, and in full activity.

Here are some highlights for this Laceno d’Oro week (December 3-10, 2023); to discover all the events you can download the complete program from our website Here.

Sunday, December 3: A full day dedicated to the French social cinema by Robert Guédiguian. The retrospective dedicated to Marseille director kicks off with the screening of “Les Neiges du Kilimandjaro,” followed by a masterclass with the author (free access, we recommend reservation); in the evening, Robert Guédiguian will be awarded the “Pier Paolo Pasolini” Lifetime Achievement Award 2023. Don’t miss the preview of the director’s latest film: “Et la fête continue!” (106’). The film will start as soon as the ceremony is over, followed by a panel discussion with the director.

Monday, December 4: We begin to discover the movies of Laceno d’Oro 48 competition, dedicated to feature films. In the afternoon, “A Batalha da Rua Maria Antônia,” preview of the film by Brazilian director Vera Egito; “Il padiglione sull’acqua” by Stefano Croci and Silvia Siberini, a documentary dedicated to the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa and his passion for Japanese culture. For the Out of Competition section, an Italian premiere of “1048 Lunes” by Charlotte Serrand. Meeting with the director after the screening.

Tuesday, December 5: “Spazio Campania” is the section dedicated to works produced in the region, with a perspective that overturns clichés. Don’t miss “Tam Tam Basket” by Mohamed Kenawi and “Summer Within” by Summer Minerva and Adam Golub. An opportunity also to meet the authors and take part in the panel after the film screenings. For the “Laceno d’Oro” 48 competition, noteworthy is “Zinzindurrunkarratz” by Oskar Alegria, in the presence of the director, and the preview of “Samsara” by Lois Patiño, in preview.

For “Spazio Campania,” “Flegrea – Un futuro per Bagnoli,” presented by director Stefano Romano. For “Laceno d’Oro” 48 competition, “Here” by Bas Devos; finally “Mishima, Life in Four Chapters” by Paul Schrader will introduce the masterclass the next day with director and screenwriter.

Saturday, December 9: For “Laceno d’Oro” 48 competition, a double event: the preview of “At Night, The Red Sky” by Ali Razi and “Segnali di vita” by Leandro Picarella. For both films, interventions by the directors are scheduled. But keep an eye also on “Ki lo sa?” by Robert Guédiguian (never released in theaters) and “The Card Counter”.

    At Night, The Red Sky

Sunday, December 10: Before the finale of this edition, you will have a chance to see Out of Competition films: “Mi fanno male i capelli” by Roberta Torre, a tribute to the eternal Monica Vitti, a selection of short films from Red Couch Pictures – “Da capo,”, “Tra gli alberi”, and “Terramara” – and “Mama Mercy” by Alessandra Cutolo.
