Who’s That Knocking at My Door? Provocative Argentinian Thriller Released in Uk, 9th April 2021.

Sovereign is proud to announce the release of noted Argentinian writer/director Francisco Márquez’s superb psychological thriller A COMMON CRIME (Un crimen común), on 9th April, on Virtual Cinemas and VOD.

Cecilia is a professor of sociology at the University, and a single mother raising a young son. One stormy night, fifteen-year-old Kevin, the son of Celia’s houseworker, knocks on the door of her house in despair. Scared of opening the door to someone she barely knows, she waits until he has gone. The next day Kevin is found dead in the river, killed by the police. Cecilia is haunted by the ghost of the young man, and driven towards a breakdown, plagued by an unshakeable guilt at her failure to help.

Award-winning director Márquez (Cannes nominated for 2016’s The Long Night of Francisco Sanctis), in assured command of his material, gets a truly remarkable lead performance from Elisa Carricajo (The Tenth Man), who, present in almost every frame, commands the screen as a woman torn between the concepts of idealism and the reality of taking action. Intimate, increasingly claustrophobic and brilliantly realised, A COMMON CRIME is an example of Latin American cinema at its most potent and profound.

Like Sovereign’s recent acclaimed releases Song Without A Name and Verdict, A COMMON CRIME looks at injustice and inequities in modern society, and the consequences of ignoring them, making it a thought-provoking drama as well as an intense and memorable thriller. It’d be a crime to miss it.
