A journey to discover a world as far as it is unknown.
Chitral, Pakistan. 3000 meters above nothing, where the air becomes thinner and the breath becomes shorter, the Kalash people preserve their long history.
An immersion through the images of Picture of Change by Elisabetta Illy that reveals the power of tradition found in this distant world.
The Kalash – 3500 indigenous gazes, sharp and captivating as the high peaks of their mountains of Hindukush – have men as farmers and herders and women dedicated to embroidery. Women that, with their delicate touch and safe hands, bring to life one of the most striking particularities of the Kalash – their traditional dresses. Filled with symbols and colours unique to each piece, it’s more than a dress to them. it’s something of inexplicable meaning.
The pictures are a window that bind together two worlds that have been running adjacent until today. It is a celebration of design as a form of art that shapes a culture – just as our emerging young designers portray our times through their creativity, the young Kalash women sew to keep their unique tradition alive.
