London 26th March 2021: Today, Mussa Fati, Executive Chef of The Ned London and Julian George, photographer, filmmaker and founder of the creative agency Made By Humans, have launched an African inspired burger. The duo are supported by William Chilila who recently opened the eagerly awaited Akoko to great acclaim. The inspiration behind the culinary excellence comes from the passion to share and celebrate West African flavours and ingredients and to change the way we view African dining.

The Wahala burger is their starter and entry onto the food scene with more soon to follow. They have created flavour combinations that are snap shots of their childhood woven into a much loved and ubiquitous Western creation.  An interplay between their British and African heritage to help bring African cuisine into visibility. It aims to inspire everyone and highlight the importance of different ingredients, flavours and experiences within the culinary landscape.

The burger itself uses Suya smoked brisket, kaanee sauce and yassa relish as well as some other secret ingredients. The combination truly brings to life the delicacies of West African cuisine and will be available to enjoy at mychale.co.uk There are meat and vegan options available to order.

The branding and designs were created by Made By Humans with Julian George creatively leading it.  The design takes its cues from African heritage, rich colours, bold shapes and elaborate patterning standing at the core of the branding. They have also incorporated words and phrases widely used across Africa with the aim of capturing the diverse cultures & languages spoken in the continent. The most prominent is the name ‘Chale’ deriving from the Ga tribe in Ghana, which means friend or mate.

Julian George says: I am extremely excited to be launching Chale with Mussa and William and entering the food world with our first product ‘The Wahala’. We have chosen a fraction from the diverse flavours and ingredients we were brought up on and presented it in the form of a burger. We hope our customers love what we’ve created and hope together we can help update the narrative and celebrate African cuisine.

Mussa Fati says: Creating the burger was an opportunity to really have fun with my culture and flavours from home. I’m delighted to be able to share this with everyone and hope they recognise that the flavours are special, and that African food is more thrilling than it’s been considered before. This is really a chance to share culture and break bread with the wider community.

Willaim Chilia says: African cuisine is on the rise and I am truly honoured to be part of the new voices that are painting the true portraits of Africa through food. Being involved in Chale is near and dear to my heart and I’m excited about the journey ahead.

The burger is the beginning of something different and has been paired with a bottle of Moet & Chandon to be celebrated with influencers and chefs across the UK including
