Brad Moore who only began acting at 40 nominated for Best Actor alongside the industry greats Michael Caine and Liam Neeson at the National Film Awards

Having only started acting at 40, Brad Moore has starred in several British films and his debut screenplay is now receiving acclaim. Not only did he pick up 2 nominations for himself at this year’s National Film Awards, his film Gloves Off received 9 nominations in total. The film stars Ricky Tomlinson (The Royle Family) nominated Best Supporting Actor, Denise Van Outen (Keith Lemon: The Film) nominated Best Supporting Actress and Paul Barber (Only Fools and Horses).

Moore is nominated alongside screen legends Steve Coogan (Stan & Oli), Scott Adkins (Accident Man), Rupert Everett (The Happy Prince), Aml Ameen (Yardie), Liam Neeson (The Commuter), Michael Caine (King of Thieves) and Clive Owen (Anon).

Gloves Off follows Doug (Brad Moore) who, after the sudden death of his trainer during his championship fight, has inherited a crumbling debt-ridden gym, packed with a mixed bag of crazy would-be boxers (Ricky Tomlinson, Paul Barber, Alexei Sayle). He must raise £50,000 fast or risk watching his mentor’s legacy re-possessed and transformed into a jumped-up pilates parlour for stockbrokers. Doug agrees to train a gypsy woman’s (Denise Van Outen) brother to fight in a £100,000 winner-takes-all bare-knuckle contest against the ‘King of The Gypsies’ which takes place at Appleby Horse Trading fair.

The film previously won Best Feature Film at the British Independent Film Festival (BIFF) 2018. The National Film Awards take place in London on 27th March 2019.
