Hot off the heels off her sold-out ‘early twenties’ album tour, Cat Burns returns with her playful cover of the chart-topping noughties anthem ‘teenage dirtbag’.
Out Friday 15th November, the cover arrives after a series of viral moments featuring Cat’s rendition of the iconic Wheatus track during her recent European and UK tour. With ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ having had a resurgence on TikTok in recent years, often soundtracking relatable awkward teen moments, the release is a fitting follow up to Cat’s critically acclaimed album exploring the ebbs and flows of early adulthood.
Since the summer release of her debut project ‘early twenties’ featuring fan favourites ‘people pleaser’ and ‘alone’, the star has enjoyed experimenting with covers that showcase her versatility. Among these has been the unmistakable ‘i like the way you kiss me’ by Artemas, which she performed on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, amassing an impressive number of views across social media.
“Teenage Dirtbag has always felt like a bit of a queer anthem to me, even if it wasn’t meant to be – I love that I didn’t have to change a single lyric. Watching this version get so much love on tour has been amazing. It’s a song for all the misfits, and I’ve put my own unapologetic spin on it. Same attitude, but with a vibe that’s true to my story.” – Cat Burns
Serving up a serious dose of nostalgia, Cat’s fresh take of ‘teenage dirtbag’ is set to resonate with a broad audience – uniting longtime fans of the track as well as her own dedicated listeners.
Following the success of her top ten album and a 2024 nod from the prestigious Mercury Prize, Cat continues to solidify her status as a voice of her generation. Fans can expect to hear more of her signature blend of raw authenticity and wit, with new music set to land early 2025.
