Stuart McAlpine Miller, an artist with numerous successful exhibitions under his belt, is coming to S&P Gallery to showcase his latest collection ‘Revelations: A Portrait of Magic’ in a solo exhibition. This enchanting collection of artworks features the artist’s exploration of characters from the iconic Wizarding World, exploring their personalities and interpreting each character’s narrative in a new, darker light. The show will be comprised of 11 limited-edition prints by the artist, starting from April 7th, 2022.
S&P Gallery will be donating a percentage of each print’s sale price to the Lumos Foundation, a charity that fights for every child’s right to a family by transforming care systems around the world. Lumos is striving for a future where every child is raised in a safe, loving home, supported by family to help them thrive.
On average more than 80% of children in orphanages have living parents, and research proves that these institutions can harm a child’s growth and development. Yet there are still an estimated 5.4 million children trapped in institutions globally. Lumos sheds light on the root causes of family separation – poverty, conflict and discrimination – and demonstrates that children can safely be united with families. By pressing governments to reform care systems, and by building global expertise and capacity with partners, they ensure no child is forgotten.
REVELATIONS: A PORTRAIT OF MAGIC
A project that has been 6 years in the making, ‘Revelations: A Portrait of Magic’’ is an artistic take on the renowned characters from the Harry Potter books and film series. The characters depicted in these artworks include Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger as well as other iconic characters, such as Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape.
In this series, the artist uses his paint brush to bring to life the different personalities of the characters from the Harry Potter series. McAlpine Miller explores the light and darkness, weighing the good against the evil of the characters’ nature by using a colour palette of contrasting shades of blues, purples and greens.
The artist’s unique layering technique and approach merges the characters and their stories in each piece; McAlpine manages to incorporate the plot of the Harry Potter series as a backdrop for his dynamic interpretations of these characters. He achieves this through his bold palette, and multi-layered imagery which consequently delivers a compelling narrative, exploring some of the deeper, darker themes of the Harry Potter narrative.
Stuart’s objective was to create artworks for those that had grown up reading the Harry Potter books and watching the movies who are now adults, perhaps with children of their own.
