CHASER is a new sci-fi mystery series with a funny centre, which is out now on Prime Video. It features the adventures of Eddi, who is a loser video editor who discovers a magical software which allows him to edit the last 24 hours of his life. Eddi starts falling deeper and deeper into the mixed up butterfly effect, chasing the girl of his dreams through a rabbit hole. The show should resonate with fans of shows who like time travel, sci-fi, black comedy, and a little bit of mystery. We chatted to the star of CHASER, Russ Russo, who talked to us about making it, his artistic process, and why he wouldn’t ever accept Eddi’s power.

Please tell us a little bit about the show CHASER and what happens – no spoilers!

My character , Eddi Sebastian, is given the power to edit his life for a period of only 24hrs. What would you change if you could about any given day –  would you get the girl, the job, the promotion, the status, the money – and would it change who you are?

What was your character’s role in the show as Eddi?

“Eddi-tor”, that’s his full name & occupation!

What is your favourite part of his journey?

His arc is one of an unlikely Hero’s Journey. My favourite part of it is learning who you really are inside when the chips are down.

What was your favourite part of this show to film?

The people of Mansfield, Ohio. So many friendships and bonds were formed through the process of filming this show!

What was the most challenging part of the role for you?

Trying to balance on a high wire! Between the hijinks that naturally occur in Eddi’s world and the serious implications of what may have occurred through his fumbling and bumbling around.

How did you get into acting, and what is your favourite thing about being an actor?

I had a strange sensation in my teens that I wanted to tell stories, but had no idea what that would entail and had no one in my family in the past several generations who had done it. I found out later on as I got further into the craft that I had relatives in Vaudeville, so it made sense!

What job would you have if you weren’t an actor?

A Detective. I love the aspects of this craft that are uncovering these small pieces of psychology that lead to greater discoveries, and in turn, the problem solving leads you further down a rabbit hole in which you hope you find some modicum of truth.

What was your process like for being in this show?

I tend to have a different process and method each time I work. With Eddi, once I built the character, I tried to stay as close to his biography, thought process, mannerisms and body language as possible, so I could easily work off the other characters and how I felt about each one of them.

If you suddenly found yourself with Eddi’s power and could edit something from the last 24 hours, what would it be?

I wouldn’t. I know that if I touched one bit of my life – the good, the bad, the ugly –  I wouldn’t have the loving wife and two beautiful daughters I have, so I don’t want the butterfly effect. No sliding doors for me, please! I’ll stick right where I am. Door Number 1.

What are you most excited about when people watch the show?

I am most excited for them to be entertained. It’s a fun romp & still has this passive way of making you think, in the end.
