‘If all the work I have made could be a book, then these two garments are part of the preface of what I hope to achieve as part of the next generation of designers who shoulder the responsibility of reinventing the wheel that is the fashion industry.’ CHERIE CHUN

The 21 year old multidisciplinary designer and artist currently studying a BA Fashion Print at Central Saint Martins Cherie Chun goes on to explain how responsible upcoming designers are for translating new sustainable technologies into a way that is easily communicated and covetable to consumers, whilst hopefully minimising each garment’s environmental impact. Whilst it may take a little longer and require more thoughtful design, it is entirely possible to make beautiful things that are both accessible and kinder to our planet.

CHRISTOPHER DE LA CRUZ ONLINE & LIVE IN PERSON DRAWING

Christopher De La Cruz Built into a bespoke set design by Matthew Lawrence modelled by industry leading agency models and professional dancers. This drawing class is available for all levels of artist. Available online via patreon or in person via Eventbrite.

American gender fluid designer from New York City studying BA Fashion design with knitwear at Central Saint Martins in London. His work focuses on gender fluidity in men’s fashion. “It’s okay for a man to feel pretty and a woman to feel empowered. In history, the women were taken out of the corset and were exposed to pants, suits and dresses which allowed them to breathe; all while men still wore their suits. Therefore: there can’t be change if only one side is changed”. As a designer Christopher is exploring men’s fashion in mind of fluidity to create unity. While exploring and experimenting with silhouettes, textures and colours. Christopher explains… ‘As a gender-fluid designer, there are not many people who see or experience the world the way I do. So I like to take those experiences and moments and create a narrative. It is about the story, the moment because I want people to feel like they are living when they wear my clothes.’

All of Christopher’s designs are genderfluid as they are related to beauty and empowerment. They are personal to the designer and represent Christophers experiences. Studying knitwear at central saint martins Christopher goes onto explain that he always thinks about the texture and colour first, usually before knitting. He goes on to explain.. ‘I’ve done a lot of work with embellishments and fabric manipulation. When I learned how to knit, I was mind blown. Because when I’m knitwear, I develop everything from scratch, from zero percent. Every thread, stitch, and movement is part of the process, and that for me is amazing because it has no range. I go as far as my creativity goes, and I have a lot more work to do, so I want to produce and show.’ Here at DCC we are thrilled to welcome the young designer to this extraordinary drawing class, expect vibrant colours, unconventional shapes, and daring silhouettes as we dive into the world of Christopher Edward De La Cruz.
