Data reveals that crime in the UK has leapt by 9% overall in the last year

More than a million violent and sexual crimes were committed in 2017

A new online resource lets you see exactly how your city ranks for crime overall and which crimes are the most common

Crime is on the rise in the UK according to new statistics, with a shocking 64.5 million crimes reported to police authorities in 2017 – almost a 9% rise from the previous year.

The worrying figures, pulled together by property buyers Good Move, have revealed that the most reported crime last year was anti-social behaviour incidents, with an astounding 17,579,087 offences reported across the nation – that’s a 44% increase.

Violent and sexual offences came second, with 14,310,033 offences committed – up a disgraceful 20% from 2016 figures.

Coming in third is criminal damage and arson, with a total of 599,602 cases reported. Statistically. Birmingham emerged as the worst area in the country for criminal damage and arson, with 10,908 crimes committed.

Which areas are the worst for crime?

Using the police data, the top six crime-ridden areas of the UK have been revealed:

The bombshell statistics reveal that three Yorkshire towns and cities, Leeds, Sheffield and Bradford make an appearance in the third, fourth and fifth place, making it the most crime-ridden county. In total, a staggering 270,342 crimes were committed in just the three cities alone.

It’s not good news for Brummies though, as Birmingham as been revealed to be the second worst UK area for crime, with 122,234 crimes committed in the city last year.

As well as providing the latest crime data per city, Crime Time also allows the user to compare the city statistics against the surrounding region.

The crimes covered include: violent/sexual crimes, vehicle crime, public order offences, weapon possession, shoplifting, personal theft, robbery, drug crime, criminal damage, bicycle theft and anti-social behaviour.
