He is an experienced aaward-winningsinger and songwriter with over 20 years in the music industry. During those 20 years he was a founding member of two signed commercially successful groups, Pay As You Go and Roll Deep.

As well as being a founding member he was also lead vocalist with Pay As You Go in the early ’00s which was signed to Sony UK through which the group released several chart topping albums and singles.

Being a part of Pay As You Go included a nationwide tour with the group’s chart topping single “Champagne Dance”. Afterwards success continued with a stint as a founding member with Roll Deep which was also signed to Sony UK alongside solo artists Wiley and TinchyStryder. During this period he made several appearances on Top of the Pops and the Pepsi Chart Show.
His current work crosses through several genres from pop/R&B/reggae to house/deep house. Dominic King

He has written a number of tracks for Aysha Loren who was recently number 1 in the UK reggae chart with 4 of these tracks on her current album “Wishing Well”. He is also collaborating and writing with acclaimed artists such as Jessica Agombar and Nick Brewer, as well as chart topping producers Zdot and Krunchie who have written for Rita Ora, Lethal Bizzle, Dappy, Wiley and more.

He is currently working on various UK collaborations working with the likes of DJ Louie Anderson, DJ Mark Radford and Aysha Loren and also with top producers in the USA. He is also working on a number of ad hoc projects which include composing lyrics and applying vocals to instrumentals supplied by A&R from several record companies and music publishing houses.

Dominic currently has a successful single on release for download, “Something About Your Love” (https://pro.beatport.com/release/something-about-your-love/1513043)

    The interview

    – Please could you tell us about your background and how it leads to the work you do today?
Growing up in the east end of London with its multicultural environment gave me so much inspiration with my song writing. I observed life, from everyone’s determination to succeed to those who have tried and failed. I wanted to capture all that rawness, emotional angst and soul in my lyrics.
I grew up with Wiley and DJ Target and we formed two successful commercially signed groups together in the early years of our careers, Pay As U Go Cartel and Roll Deep.
Being a part of Pay As U Go Cartel included a nationwide tour with the group’s chart topping single “Champagne Dance”. Afterwards success continued with Roll Deep alongside Wiley and TinchyStryder. During this period I made several appearances on Top of the Pops and the Pepsi Chart Show.
As I have grown older inevitably my sound has matured and mellowed but those early experiences are still reflected in my current work through my lyrics and emotions conveyed through those lyrics.
Fame from being a singing artist has never been a goal or desire of mine. My ambition has always been to write for other artists. To have an artist take one of my works and apply their own talent and interpretation to it is just the most rewarding feeling for me.

    Dominic King

    – Where are you based?
I live in east London where I was born and raised.
    – How would you describe your work to someone who hasn’t seen it before?
I would describe my work as having its root inspiration in reggae, gospel, R&B and soul. I then use those root sources as a basis to write new tracks from and tailor them style and genre wise accordingly to the work in hand, e.g. house, edm, R&B etc.
I always refer back to those root influences in my current work.
    – Who else is behind your brand?
The brand of Dominic King was created by myself as an individual identity in its own right with regard to being an independent singer and songwriter.
I am professionally managed on a day to day basis by Aaron Reid who has many years of experience in business, project and brand management. Aaron and myself also have strong professional support by Alan Edwards, a successful London based technology entrepreneur who has recently expanded his ventures in to the professional boxing arena through his partnership with Mickey Helliet Management.– What or who has been the biggest singular influence on your work?
I have always taken my inspiration from the greats of R&B, soul and gospel. Legends such as Luther Vandross, Anthony Hamilton, Leandria Johnson, Womack and Womack, Bob Marley and UB40.
All of them were strong influences to a whole generation of songwriters, myself included.– Which project have you enjoyed working on the most so far?I would say my most exciting and challenging project so far has been writing and vocalling a bespoke track for British professional middleweight boxer Elliott Matthews, specifically tailored for use at his upcoming British Middleweight Championship fight in early 2016.
I had to construct the song differently as it wouldn’t be a traditional track in that sense but had to be designed as a powerful entrance and ring side song.
The song had to be almost anthemic in style. It had to portray and convey the raw restrained power of a championship boxer and yet had to reflect all the emotions and ambition which go alongside that power.
After much work in studio I delivered the completed track to the man himself, Elliott Matthews, and his management and sponsors. All of whom were thrilled with the track and there now plans to use the track and myself in joint PR initiatives with Elliott Matthews in the lead up to his championship title fight.
This was my challenging and most satisfying project.

    – Where people can find more about you and your future projects.
I am a firm believer in the positive uses and benefits of social media platforms to reach my fans and supporters. I use multiple platforms to keep everyone updated on my current work projects and activities.
