Millions of UK workers have missed nuptials due to interrupting bosses 1 in 5 have missed a major UK cultural event due to a work issue Almost half (46%) of workers respond ‘immediately’ out of hours Warning comes ahead historic British weekend including The Royal Wedding & The FA Cup Final

THURSDAY 17TH MAY 2018 – LONDON, UK – The UK is currently gripped by Royal Wedding fever as the nation enjoys an early summer heatwave. Harry and Meghan’s Windsor wedding is followed by the 2018 FA Cup Final this Saturday and millions of Brits are already looking forward to a bumper weekend of patriotic revelry.

However, new research released today, that spoke to over 6,700 UK employees, suggests that it is not just The Royal Wedding where the attendance of certain invitees is in jeopardy. Today’s figures suggest that 1 in 8 (12%) of Britons have had to miss a wedding due to a workplace emergency!

This shocking findings by the leading online jobs board totaljobs suggest that millions of British workers have missed friends and family members walk down the aisle at the last minute due to the scourge of our 24/7 working culture.

In addition to this shocking discovery, 1 in 5 (20%) of UK workers have missed a major cultural event due to a last-minute work request – suggesting Chelsea and Manchester United fans will watch their phones nervously in the minutes and hours ahead of this Saturday’s 5.15pm kick-off time.

The last-minute unpredictably of these requests clearly has UK workers on edge, with almost half (46%) admitting that they reply to out of hours requests ‘immediately’ regardless of the time of the day or night they come in. A mere 9% of workers say they would feel comfortable declining a request as it is ‘out of hours’. Only 16% of workers say their family are happy with their work/life balance.

This willingness to reply immediately is probably linked to whose is likely to be sending the request. 62% of those who have been interrupted said the contact came from the boss of their company, with 60% saying they had been contacted by ‘senior colleagues’. 59% said they had been contacted at evenings and weekends by demanding clients.
