Hertfordshire up and coming UK pop artist Ed Staal is back with ‘Why’, the second single to be taken from the upcoming EP Battle Scars & Broken Hearts. Demonstrating his musical diversity, steering away from the vintage soul found on ‘Baby Blue’ and towards a more electronic, R&B pop sound, ‘Why’ is emotive and reflective, capturing a striking, intense honesty in the lyricism and delicate, melancholic vocal delivery. The soundscape of electronic beats, electronic beats, beautifully placed arpeggiators and subtle guitar lines underlines the sensitive vocals resulting in a track with effortless commercial appeal as well as musical depth.
Talking about the single Ed adds: “Why is a song I wrote a long time ago after parting ways with someone I truly loved and comes from a place in my heart as pure and true as any song I’ve ever made. For me this song will always be a reminder of how frustrating it can be to truly care for someone that just isn’t right for you, and how uncontrollably irrational love can be.”
