The latest release by one of Europe’s leading vintage fashion retailers, True Vintage, has revealed the biggest global hotspots for vintage fashion based on buyer demand and the number of orders shipped in 2019.
From Afghanistan to French Polynesia and everywhere in between, leading vintage fashion retailer, True Vintage, has helped drive the retro clothing revival on a global scale. Delivering over 27,000 orders of vintage clothing totalling £1.7m to 85 countries around the world in the last year alone, True Vintage has revealed it’s vintage fashion hotspots for 2019, based on the location with the largest demand for its stock – and they’re all in Europe.
By City
Three major capitals top the table as the current vintage fashion hotspots with London placing top, followed by Berlin and Madrid.
The UK then dominates mid-table with Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Glasgow and Belfast all ranking high, with Birmingham, Oxford, Sheffield and Newcastle also making the top 20.
Outside of the UK, Hamburg in Germany places at number 11, with Paris, Koln, Munich, Amsterdam and Barcelone all making the cut.
By Nation
When it comes to the total number of sales across a nation, the UK tops the vintage clothing hotspots table with Germany coming in second and France third. The USA ranks fourth, followed by Spain, Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and Italy.
Canada, New Zeland, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, Japan, Singapore and Greece complete the top 20 nations where demand for vintage clothing is concerned.
Founder and CEO of Truevintage.com, Rory Westbrook, commented:
“It’s great to see such a diverse range of both cities and nations making the cut where demand for vintage clothing is concerned and I think it demonstrates the wide appeal of the sector and the range of different styles and preferences available to suit all tastes.
As True Vintage has grown our client base has crossed seas and borders to reach every corner of the world, and while foreign exports account for most of our business, It’s great to see that where individual cities are concerned our hometown of London still tops the table and there are a wealth of UK cities within the top 20.
We’re lucky in the UK, as there is a great level of stock kicking about and this goes hand in hand with a huge appreciation of the vintage clothing sector, so we’re certainly not surprised that the likes of Sheffield or Belfast are kicking it with other more traditional fashion powerhouses like Madrid and Paris.”
