Great success for the Fashion Award “Città dei Sassi”, where sensuality, passion, originality and internationality characterized the tenth edition of the International Competition for Fashion Designers. The aim of the competition is to identify, promote and reward creatives, designers to discover emerging stylists and / or professionals in the field of women’s fashion and to enhance their talent in the splendid setting of the “Sassi” of Matera – Italy (Unesco World Heritage and Capital European Culture of Culture 2019).

And in the same vein that from Matera (European Capital of Culture 2019) the Fashion Award “Città dei Sassi” with the Cultural Association Officina della Cultura wanted to reaffirm the concept that fashion is an essential part of our cultural heritage and in a mix of excellence, alongside design, lifestyle, food and wine, is the heart of our country, appreciated all over the world.
The promoters believe that the idea of combining fashion with the territory is a winning idea capable of further enhancing the cultural heritage that characterizes this Italian region but above all, by identifying an exclusive union between the charm and natural beauties of the territory and the creativity of fashion.
Telling a story, a country, a culture with images that combine beauty, real life, melancholic spirituality, fascination hidden behind faces, thoughts, memory and hospitality, in an unprecedented territory waiting to be discovered even with the language of fashion ( fashion shows, exhibitions, book presentations, workshops) is the aim of the tenth anniversary of the Fashion Award “Città dei Sassi”.

Winners of the tenth edition of the “Città dei Sassi” Fashion Prize were:

The Premio Moda al Cinema (this year dedicated to the actress Claudia Cardinale, an icon of cinema and style in the world) has been recognized by the Brazilian designer Aline Sanches Pereira and “Serikos” Prize (presented by the textile entrepreneur Beppe Pisani) was awarded to the Iranian designer Sara Behbud.
The “Matera 2019” Fashion Prize has been awarded to the maternal designer Claudia Perdicchia.
while the Special Award “The Fashionable Lampoon” was recognized to the stylists Valentina Mondini and Simona Lomurno delivered by the Managing Editor Angelica Carrara.

Sara Behbud presented a collection inspired by the Turcoman population of Turkish ancestry of Central Asia in northeastern Iran, the designer Giorgia Cavina was inspired by the transformation related to the passage of state of matter, ie solid, liquid and finally aeriform, the theme of the Irene Cosentino collection is an imaginary bridge between the ancient and mysterious Egypt and the cosmopolitan island of Ibiza. The collection of Cristian Di Serio is inspired by the Celtic myth of the crow, from the free and pure white crow to the enslaved and forced black crow, Maria Luisa Vazquez was inspired by the Japanese mood of the geisha, traditional figure full of opulence and intrigue while the Valentina Mondini and Simona Lomurno presented a collection that is differentiated by the use of unconventional materials combined with classic fabrics. Leonarda Nada Nuovo the collection is a hymn to Borsalino and the freedom to express oneself, to communicate oneself through colors and precious details like the Hollywood divas while the theme of Giampaolo Proietto‘s collection is Woman in dark shining, for a woman who loves total black and the bright light of the crystals.
Carmela Fortunato presented clothes that symbolize a woman free to express her femininity, reminiscent of hippie elements, casual, from great soirèe, Inna Lanova represented a strong woman with a rigid line, heavy synthetic fur fabrics, which represent the severe climate of Siberia . The title of the collection of Aline Sanches Pereira is “State of the Soul” and is inspired by a series of canvases made of charcoal, which represent the various female moods, transposed on clothes, the key words of Valentina Poltronieri‘s collection are geometries, eras, classicism, iconicity, Zimwabi-Sabi is the title of Elisabetta Tentella‘s collection inspired by the aesthetics of Wabi-sabi, a way of life that finds beauty in the wounds and imperfections of life, Giuliana Zani presented a collection inspired by the lightness of colors and spring flowers.
For the Ecosustainable Eco-Friendly section:
Wood Collection is the title of the Giorgia Cavina collection and is an innovative project aimed at using a natural and common material, which presents a great wealth of versatility and flexibility, Valentina Corvaro has presented a collection entitled “Fashion Consciousness” which presents simple and clean lines to enhance fabrics and materials. Ecological leather was used in apple scraps, organic vegetable-dyed cotton with shibori technique and applications in a bioplastic made by the designer. Carmela Fortunato has created a collection with tea bags, plastic bags of various colors and hat created with pieces of mosquito nets and flower net, other elements used natural jute, used CD and all recycled material, Anna Rotella has created transformable clothes created from the reuse of old sheets of cotton or linen expertly painted by the artists Mauro Caracuzzo and Fabio Truffa with images of nature and masks of the Japanese NOH theater.
To complete the look of the models, Clarence Management and DMA Agency, the hair stylists of PIXEL C3 and make up artist: Academy by Antonio Riccardo (Naples), the photographs are by Enzo Dell’Atti, Emanuele Taccardi and Sandro Quarto, video filming Rocco Lombardi and Maurizio Ruscigno.

Presentation of the exhibition by stylist Michele Miglionico entitled “Madonnas Lucane. Clothes that smell incense”in the Consecrated Church of Purgatory in via Ridola, Matera. This exhibition was strongly desired by the Publimusic.com of Sabrina Gallitto, from the Brotherhood “I Pastori della Bruna” of Matera (ancient corporation founded in 1697), represented in the person of Prior Prof. Emanuele Calculli and by Don Angelo Gallitelli Parish priest of the Parish Cathedral Maria SS. Della Bruna.
Thirty white mannequins installed on the central nave of the church, facing the central altar and the side altars, recounted a solemn, magical, mysterious and touching collection dedicated by the stylist to the tradition and the artistic-cultural heritage of his land with the exaltation of elements of the Lucan costume, of craftsmanship, of the sacredness building a connection with the contemporary that is inspired by the Madonnas venerated in this land and carried in procession and the women dressed in black in tow.
Classic draperies, talari appiombi, sumptuous brocades and precious trimmings have highlighted a collection of light dresses dedicated to a contemporary “Madonna”.
Many references to the eighteenth-century folk costumes such as the overlapping skirts that give volume to the hips, the embroidery and handmade lace used on the bodices (another constant element of the traditional female costume Lucania to enhance the breast) the coat that follows the Greek influence and the veil as an indispensable accessory during religious services.
Another moment of great interest was the presentation in the National Archaeological Museum Domenico Ridola – Matera of the book “Eleganza Fascista. La moda dagli anni venti alla fine della guerra” (ed. Carocci) by Sofia Gnoli, fashion historian and journalist, teaches Fashion History at the Sapienza University of Rome and writes about “Venerdì” “and the “Repubblica”.
Paola Cacianti (historical critic of fashion and journalist) and Rosalba Stasolla (professor of costume history) took part.
History, fashion, women and the regime are the main ingredients of this book which, through unpublished documents, rare archive images and oral testimonies, traces the history of Italian fashion from the early twenties to its great international recognition after the Second World War.
The Fashion Show “Città dei Sassi” 2018 ended with the presentation of the school book: “Tecnologie e tecniche di rappresentazione grafica” by Rosalba Stasolla and Concetta Forte (ed. San Marco) presented at the Malvinni-Malvezzi Church Meeting Room – Palazzo Gattini Luxury Hotel. It is the first volume of a work composed of two volumes: the first for the two-year period; the second for the third, fourth year and fifth year of the Technical Institutes of the Fashion System, of the Art School of Architecture, Design, Environment, Fashion and Costume, of the Professional Institutes of Industry and Crafts. It is written in four hands by the authors Concetta Forte and Rosalba Stasolla, publisher San Marco di Bergamo.
