Florence Welch is pleased to announce an incredibly special performance of her debut album Lungs as part of the BBC proms this September. Titled ‘Symphony of Lungs’, this iteration of the seminal album will find Florence performing the record in full, as arranged and conducted by the Grammy Award winning Jules Buckley and his Orchestra. The grandeur of the Royal Albert Hall is the perfect space in which to witness such a performance, the resplendent and lavish setting will offset Florence’s opulent and commanding stage presence perfectly. Taking place on September 11th, 2024, the ‘Symphony of Lungs’ marks Florence’s debut at the BBC Proms and will be aired live on BBC Radio 3 and recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 1, BBC TWO and BBC iPlayer.

“This album was such a patchwork of a period of time. Of my messy teenage years and early twenties. I had no idea what I was doing or where it would go and a lot of the songs are simply an exhalation of joy. But that’s really where the sound of Florence + The Machine was born. So to have it still be so present in people’s hearts 15 years later, and to be invited to play through it orchestrally at the BBC Proms is such an honour.” Florence Welch

The BRIT award winning Lungs celebrates its 15 year anniversary this July. A debut album that set the tone for the sound of the following decade in British music; a sound that is still hugely influential in the current climate of popular music. A female fronted band that powerfully embraced the theatrical in songwriting and performance, transported by the formidable vocal prowess of Florence Welch. Lungs entered the charts at Number 1 in multiple countries, was nominated for countless awards and has gone on to garner 4.7 Billion streams globally including being 6 x Platinum in the UK alone.

Tickets for the BBC Proms go on sale on May 18th at 9am

    About the BBC Proms:

As the world’s biggest classical music festival, the BBC Proms offers eight weeks of world-class music-making from a vast array of leading orchestras, conductors and soloists from the UK and around the world. Across 90 concerts, the festival aims to offer a summer of music that allows for the most diverse and exciting musical journeys. More than 125 years since it was founded, the driving factor in building a festival of this scale is to offer exceptional music-making at the lowest possible prices, continuing founder-conductor Henry Wood’s original ambition of bringing the best classical music to the widest possible audience. With every Prom broadcast on BBC Radio 3, available across multiple platforms and 24 televised on the BBC, the Proms reaches far beyond the Royal Albert Hall. This year’s BBC Proms season runs from Friday 19 July to Saturday 14 September 2024.
