Last year, in the issue 19 of its paper version magazine, FabUK painted a portrait of the young French artist Aldana (born Corentin Boursier) as he was about to leave for New York for several weeks. That was almost one year ago. While there, he had the opportunity to meet a New York-based gallery owner through a French gallery owner who had organized for him an exhibition in southern France and suggested he should explore the art market he had dreamt of across the Atlantic. Aldana exhibited his works in Central Park as he was inspired by the Big Apple. He did five paintings there during his stay. He discussed a possible new – longer – stay in NYC with the American gallery owner who now wishes to help him develop and promote his works of art.
Aldana’s recurring character in his works is called “the Horlantique” who is inspired by the Horla. The latter is a dark character from a key short story written by the renowned 19th century French author Guy de Maupassant. The Horlantique highlights sadness, neurosis, insomnia, loneliness. He is the reflection of Aldana’s soul, locked up in a canvas and trying to give a meaning to his existence e.g. the emblematic work of art that he painted when in New York and called “237 Henry St, New York”
Big plans on his mind & New York in his sights
For the future, Aldana’s motto could be : “New city life. New city lights. New York in my sights”. He is back in France for a while. Yet, in order to make his dreams come true, he plans to go back to New York in 2024 and to stay there for a much longer period. Meanwhile, he is scheduling several exhibitions in southern and western France.
