Toe shaving, chin hair plucking, secret crushes and hefty overdrafts, have emerged among a list of things British women are keeping SECRET from their partners.

Researchers polled the nation’s females and revealed a host of things they do not feel their other half needs to know about, with the average female having a minimum of THREE secrets.

Penalty points on driving licences, bleaching moustaches and even HATING their mother in law were other things most likely to be kept secret.

However it was the amount that British women spend on clothes which emerged as the most common thing to be kept on the down low. (17 percent fib about this).

What their REAL WEIGHT is came in second place (14 percent), with the number of lovers she had before settling down coming third, according to the poll. (13 percent).

As many as one in twenty admitted they have a secret crush on someone else, while a further one in twenty earn more money than their partner thinks and 8 percent would not dream of telling their partner that they have to shave their TOES.

According to the poll, to celebrate the launch of Champneys new Professional Collection body care range, as many as 65 percent of women do not tell their partner everything because they claim there are certain things their other half “just doesn’t need to know”.

One in three of the fairer sex’s secrets (34 percent) are kept because women are self-conscious about certain things, while a mysterious 9 percent of women admit they just ‘like having secrets’.

Similarly, one in three women admit that they tell their best friend MORE than they tell their partner, but that mainly seems to be because, as 40 percent of them put it, “he won’t be interested”.

The fact women have to pluck unsightly whiskers from their chin and having to regularly bleach the hairs on their upper lip were also common mysteries UK women are keeping close to their chest.

The poll revealed that nearly half (48 percent) of women said they are extremely private when it comes to their beauty regime and would always perform grooming tasks such as shaving, waxing or plucking behind closed doors.

A spokesperson from Champneys said: “Our research showed that more than one in ten (12 percent) of women want to give the illusion they are naturally beautiful and don’t want their partner to know of the laborious beauty tasks they have to undertake. There are certain things women prefer to keep private from their partners, and with the launch of our new Professional Collection, women can have a spa experience in their own homes to make sure they look and feel fabulous at all times.”

But the poll revealed seven in ten women believe there is a big difference between telling a little white lie compared to harbouring a big secret or lie, while three quarters justify their actions by telling themselves that all healthy relationships harbour secrets.

Interestingly, the poll found that most women believe that the man in their life is keeping secrets from them and 15 percent confessed to getting angry when they discover their other half has kept them in the dark about something…
