London Fashion Week SS26 witnessed a striking showcase as Hengdi Wang unveiled “EXOGENESIS”, a collection that redefines fashion as both cosmic narrative and cultural memory. Our photographer Fil Mazzarino was on-site to capture the futuristic silhouettes and intricate craftsmanship in stunning detail.
Drawing on Eastern mythology, post-human biological constructs, and digital innovation, Hengdi Wang’s work goes beyond ornament and protection. Each piece becomes a vessel of memory, survival, and imagination—an exploration of humanity’s origins and futures across both myth and cosmos.
Inspired by the legendary Shan Hai Jing bestiaries and Kunlun, reimagined as a crashed generational starship, the collection reframes ancient stories as echoes of extraterrestrial encounters. Garments featured 3D-printed textiles, laser-etched metals, and nebula-inspired sacred geometry, merging fragility with resilience. Traditional embroidery and jacquard were reborn as carriers of information, intertwining with digital algorithms to create a hybrid aesthetic rooted in both past and future.
Three key axes shaped the narrative:
- Mythological Reimagination – transforming primordial beasts and oracle bone scripts into biomorphic, extraterrestrial archetypes.
- Biological and Mechanical Structures – exoskeletal armor, spirals, and iridescent scales reimagined through futuristic 3D techniques.
- Mechanical Oracle Script – laser-etched fabrics infused with ancient scripts and NASA celestial imagery, glowing with bioluminescent codes.
With EXOGENESIS, Hengdi Wang presented fashion as a living code, a container of time, and a bridge between the human and the infinite unknown—a radical meditation on myth, memory, and futurism.
