In case you hadn’t heard, the 71st Miss World was crowned recently in Mumbai India.  The coveted crown went to Krystyna Pyszkovå (24)  a law student and model representing  Czech Republic!

The contest, named the Miss World Festival took place over a three week period  starting off in Delhi and had a number of qualifying rounds . All 112 contestants were invited to try to advance to the top 40 in the qualifyers .

Contestants from the UK & Ireland did well overall, here’s more information about how they did,  their stunning looks for the national costume opening ceremony & the all important red carpet evening gown look for the final catwalk.

MISS ENGLAND

The 2nd highest place contender in Europe was Jessica Gagen (28) representing England .

Jessica is an aerospace engineer & won the Europe Head to Head Challenge speaking about the effects of Climate Change . Jess was also shortlisted for the Sports challenge & reached the final 8 in the Miss World grand final.  Jessica now proudly holds the title of Miss World Europe.

Henshall Way Couture , two British Designers Scott Henshall and Eric Way collaborated to create Jessica’s red carpet look for the final catwalk .  London designer Puneet Bhandal created a Mary Poppins replica style costume for the Miss World Opening Scene to represent England.

MISS WALES

Reaching the final 40 was Darcey Corria representing Wales, a freelance model who’s studying to be a children’s nurse. Darcey made both the Sports & Talent shortlists in the contest.  Darcey wore the Welsh national costume worn on St David’s day as a sign of pride & decided to wear a pre worn evening gown she bought second hand for the final catwalk.

MISS NORTHERN IRELAND

The Northern Ireland representative was Kaitlyn Clarke 27 a primary school teacher.

Kailyns Evening gown designer was Josephine Scott London from LA Bridal House  The designer of her national costume is Anastacia McGivern www.anastaciamcgivern.com

Talented Kaitlyn reached the shortlist in the Miss World Head to Head Challenge & placed 2nd in the Miss World talent round with her impressive theatrical singing performance but was surprisingly unplaced on the final night

MISS IRELAND

Ivanna Mc Mahon Age 29, works as a Doctor. Ivanna wore a Barbie pink evening gown designed by Brendan Marc Scully, in collaboration with Simply Divine

Ivanna’s National costume was a traditional irish dance dress that belonged to Ivanna from when she was a competitive irish dance champion. Ivanna also reached the top 12 in the talent round playing the Harp!

MISS SCOTLAND

Chelsie Allison age 26 who works as a Retail manager

Chelsie Reached the top 20 in the Miss World Top Model awards at the Aurika hotel Mumbai after the the 112 delegates walked the runway in black dresses brought from their respective countries before the judges reached a decision.  Chelsie wore a stunning blue off the shoulder gown for her Miss World final catwalk. Designer unknown

For her national costume Chelsie wore a Scotland tartan skirt transformed in to Shetland Wool woven in pink & purple & completed the look with a gorgeous scarf from the Tartan Weaving Mill.

The 71st Miss World final took place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai India on Saturday 9th March .

Since then the winning team have been whisked off to Mauritius for a luxury break.
