“I’m Woman” theatre show offers powerful message in a #MeToo era

NEW THEATRE SHOW OFFERS POWERFUL MESSAGE IN A #METOO ERA

The one-woman show is a story of empowerment through trauma.

November 20^th, 2018. LONDON (UK): A new one-woman play is set to shake up London’s contemporary theatre scene this festive season. I’m A Woman will take to the stage at The Playground Theatre this December, with actress Ana Daud taking the solo role.

Named only as “Woman” throughout the play, Daud will relive her own traumatic and influential experiences that have shaped her progression to adulthood. Following a sexual assault by her drama teacher, the story explores the recovery from a turbulent journey of anorexia, addiction, abortion, and prostitution. Haunted by feelings of shame, a continuing battle with childhood traumas and adulthood challenges leaves her vulnerable to a number of taboos and socially-prohibited experiences, as she tries to find meaning and acceptance.

I’m A Woman explores how releasing herself from the shackles of the past opened up a new path of love and forgiveness. Now a prominent actress, her ability to convey sensitivity, passion and trauma has earned her high praise from many in the industry. Her commitment to raising awareness of women’s issues has also been commended.

With the #MeToo movement continuing to gather global momentum, this progressive and timely production gives an insight into how through facing her fears, confronting pain and embracing flaws, Daud has emerged feeling stronger than ever before.

This deeply personal yet hugely relatable message is sure to strike a chord in women everywhere.

Directed by Dumitru Akrish and with inspiration from the bible, this hard-hitting true story merges facts, powerful memories and even notes of humour to explore the truth and ramifications of abruptly losing one’s childhood innocence.

As a prominent contemporary theatre director, Akrish has become famous for his ability to take audiences on inspirational and even humorous journeys over the past six years.

The show runs from Wednesday 19^th December until Friday 21^st December with each show starting at 7.30pm.

Early bird tickets cost £15 each and are available to buy online. Tickets can also be purchased on the evening of the show at £25 each, with a concession price of £18 for under 26’s, over 60’s, students and those not in employment.
