This year’s Italian Film Festival in Milazzo, Sicily, has once again offered moments of great emotion with an edition marked by change. From the 7th – 10th June, the artistic direction, curated by Franco Arcoraci, brought an extensive and articulated programme with numerous film premieres, productions and live performances.

The final evening of the Festival concluded in the Trifiletti Theatre with the ‘Silver Stars’ awards to national and international film stars including Hollywood star Matt Dillon, three-time Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro, US actress Alfre Woodard, actor Rocco Papaleo and actresses and actors Giulia Andò, Nicola Guaglianone, Paola Lavini and Ivano De Matteo.

The final evening of the Festival, hosted by Veronica Maya and General Director Franco Arcoraci, ended in the Trifiletti Theatre. Various prizes were awarded for the occasion, including the ‘Mare Milazzo’ award, to TV dramas and series, established for the first time within the Italian Film Festival, in honour of the City of Milazzo. The prize was awarded to the TV series “Marefuori”, with Desirée Popper collecting the award. In addition, several national film productions competed, including films, documentaries and short films.

A prize was awarded to the short film ‘Manco Morto’ by Emma Cecala and a special prize to the short film entitled ‘C’hai 5’ by Daniele Falleri with the participation of Maria Grazia Cucinotta.

A prize was awarded to the documentary titled ‘Mimì, tutti ne parlano, io l’ho conosciuta’, by Gianfrancesco Lazotti, with Mariana Lancellotti, Francesco Guzzo Magliocchi, Vasila Gavrilas Burlacu, Rino Rodio, Stefano Baldrini and Silvia Mezzanotte.

The Festival’s Honorary President Fabrizio Del Noce, Giorgio Pasotti, Stefania Casini, Silvia Mezzanotte, Edoardo romano Aleandro Baldi, Viola Valentino, Giovanni Cacioppo, Francesco Rizzuto, Giusy Venuti, Stefania Casini participated in the final evening as guests and award-winners, Pino Ammendola, Serena De Bari, Lina Savonà, Giovanni Esposito, Nello Pepe, Maria Pia Iannuzzi, Marcello Foti, Gianni Todini, Jenny De Nucci, Emanuel Caserio, Silvia Scola, Andrea Bosca, Riccardo Trombetta, Marco Robinson, Biagio Maimone, Roberta Ammendola, Gabriella Chiarappa, Christian Marazziti and many others.

Among those present was Mayor Pippo Midili, who was enthusiastic about the event and its cultural contribution to the city. At the centre laid the theme of beauty, understood as a profound expression of the culture proper to that cinema whose primary purpose is to convey messages of high cultural depth, such as to affect reality.

A Festival which offered many surprises, a mirror of the richness of contemporary society which simply put the timeless magic of ‘cinema’ in first place.
