JU-NNA is a London based luxury womenswear label, which is the pioneer of combining Japanese traditional handicraft Shibori with art inspired prints. The 3D shape JU-NNA creates gives fabrics a very unique trait, stretchy, and that makes JU-NNA’s design original.

Shibori is a Japanese traditional handicraft which has been processed mainly for kimono. Artisans bind fabric using a thread by hand and make tiny knots one by one. This is a very time-consuming process with the end result being exceptionally beautiful.

Artisans used to start practicing this technique from childhood and their dedication has kept this heritage alive. However, due to the decreasing demand for kimono and the aging issue of artisans, this tradition sadly faces a danger of extinction. JU-NNA’s collection aims to contribute to the preservation of this precious heritage.

The director of JU-NNA, Jun completed his MA study in London after spending a decade in the Japanese kimono and fashion industry. Through a lot of trial and error, Jun succeeded in processing Shibori on printed fabric and he has been exploring new techniques and patterns. JU-NNA’s first collection for SS21 was focused on Shibori with a drapey satin. He then started to combine it with various materials such as faux leather to give Shibori a new life in the AW21 collection.
