Le Sillage means “the wake” and expresses their initial intention to create an independent brand in pursuit of their original ideas. In contemporary China’s clothing market, brands with small profits but a quick turnover have almost only pure commercial purposes and lack design, meaning and purpose.

The world is rapidly developing, in an era of mass production, we should find our own style and try to be different and not conform. The next generation cannot blindly pursue fashion imitation. In such a big environment, under the incomprehension of the people around them, the controversial people firmly established Le Sillage.

Designer Chen Qiyang originally studied architecture design at university, however, for the sake of his childhood dream, he dropped out and pursued his study in Japan. He entered Mr. Yohji Yamamoto’s alma mater Bunka Fashion College to study fashion design.

The other design element of Le Sillage is Sun Shiyu who admired the charm of art, culture and fashion design when studying in the UK and took up BA Fashion Design at Coventry University. A year later, to better pursue the design concept closer to Chinese culture, she decided to go to Japan to continue studying her fashion design at Bunka Fashion College.

Through similar experiences and concepts, they jointly founded the brand Le Sillage to create distinct styles.

Le Silage’s debut during London Fashion Week is compiled in an almost all black collection which reflects the brands clean aesthetic. Black is often regarded as a monotonous colour, but it also brings a high-level of dignity to people as it acts as a disguise. In terms of design, Le Sillage carries out morphological changes and deconstruction through vertical cutting and crossed gender styles.

With “Whole” as the concept for this season the collection does not print words and patterns on any of their garments, the designer’s heart is conveyed through bold graffiti hand-painting and needlework embroidery, one of the many skills and details which are reflective of the Le Sillage brand.
