Liverpool-based indie-pop up and comers The Garnetts return with the ‘Still Running’ (February 24th). LISTEN HERE
Building a reputation for their danceable indie sound, influenced by a mix of artists including HAIM, The Strokes and Talking Heads, the band has already sold out nights at prestigious Liverpool venues, including The Cavern (for BBC Introducing), O2 Academy, Grand Central Hall, and EBGBs.
‘Still Running’ is a prime example of this musical approach. Crafted under the guidance of acclaimed producer Ben Harper (The Mysterines, The Kairos, The Sherlocks, The Zutons), the single brings together bright, crunching guitar tones, tight drums and grounding bass under the commanding, effortlessly catchy lead vocals. Growing into its anthemic chorus, the track gradually builds momentum adding layers of vocal harmonies under the central lead vocal line.
Talking about the single, the band explain:
“I was tired when I started out writing ‘Still Running’. Modern life is tough, getting tougher – and all you ever seem to hear these days (whilst the kids are making millions from their bedrooms) is people telling themselves they should be content with the things they’ve managed to own. But when you ask yourself whether the things you sit amongst are the things you think you’re here for, you start to wonder what you’re doing with your time.
It’s about finding the strength to put your middle finger up and shoot for a dream, even if that means living with “less”, or struggling to make average ends meet as an artist; stuck in that bottom-of-the-ladder job. It’s about realising you’d rather spend time living with the sun on your face, surrounded by people and art at any given opportunity than build a healthy pension.”
The single was recorded at the iconic Liverpool Motor Museum, marking a milestone in The Garnetts’ journey. Working with Ben Harper, the band pushed the creative boundaries, incorporating nuanced percussion, sat-back pads, and even piano into their signature, guitar led indie sound.
Having garnered attention from tastemaker radio and press including ANR Factory, Nerve Magazine, Bearded Magazine, BBC Introducing and more, The Garnetts have already established themselves as one to watch. Having cut their teeth with sell out headline shows in and around Liverpool and appearances at the likes of Liverpool Digital Music Festival, Deva Fest 2023, and Hale Barns Festival 2023, the band have demonstrated what an electrifying and exciting live band they are, ready to take their music to the next level.
