Brian Parker’s organisation of David Hockney’s first retrospective in Bradford and their meetings during the 60’s ignited much of his art ethos inspiration and now “The Journey So Far…It’s All About Me” showcases a wide selection of Parker’s work, selected from the last 10 years of daily painting.
Parker’s obsessions will all be on display; People, Places, Dancers & Scenes from his own life, at the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery this October. Eccentric, unlikely and yet still defiantly reverent of every day, this exhibition is Parker’s launch event which will present his outstanding paintings to London’s art lovers.
After a career as a scientist with a PhD in Chemical Engineering, and with notable and typically unlikely diversions into climbing and dance (not at the same time!), he decided to return to his early passion of Fine Art. Largely self-taught, Parker quickly discovered his unique vision of the world and his consequential artistic depictions on canvas successfully convey those visions and he feels now is the time to bring his work before a larger audience.
His aim is always to create beautiful images which leave the viewer with a feeling of satisfaction and pleasure by use of colour and form, bringing out the underlying patterns in his compositions. He strips subjects down to the bare essentials to capture the beauty inherent in what could otherwise be banal, everyday images. The humdrum is elevated to the extraordinary – the extraordinary into a world in which one immediately wants to inhabit.
Parker has been a finalist in many open art competitions over the last few years including Art Call 2018 and The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition and had a two-man show at the Wayward Gallery in the East End, winning best in show prizes on two occasions.
