NEON and Picturehouse Entertainment have announced the UK and Irish theatrical release of Luca Guadagnino’s ARTIFICIAL, alongside the film’s official teaser trailer. The film will be released exclusively in cinemas on 22 January 2027.
London, 9 September — Luca Guadagnino’s ARTIFICIAL, starring Andrew Garfield as OpenAI founder Sam Altman, will arrive in cinemas across the UK and Ireland in early 2027, following festival screenings at the New York Film Festival and the London Film Festival.
Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, known for Call Me By Your Name and Challengers, the film is written by Emmy Award-winning Saturday Night Live writer Simon Rich. ARTIFICIAL explores the events surrounding Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT.

The film focuses on the highly consequential days surrounding Altman’s sudden firing and subsequent reinstatement, against the backdrop of an intensifying global race over the development and control of artificial intelligence technology.
Andrew Garfield leads an ensemble cast that includes Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Cooper Hoffman, Jason Schwartzman, Chris O’Dowd, Ike Barinholtz and Mark Rylance.
The film is produced by David Heyman p.g.a., Jeffrey Clifford p.g.a., Luca Guadagnino p.g.a., Jennifer Fox p.g.a. and Simon Rich p.g.a. Damon Albarn provides the film’s music and original songs.
Described as a darkly funny and timely drama, ARTIFICIAL will make its way onto the autumn festival circuit with screenings at both the New York Film Festival and the London Film Festival before its UK and Irish theatrical debut.
ARTIFICIAL will be released exclusively in UK and Irish cinemas by NEON and Picturehouse Entertainment from 22 January 2027.
