The most viral edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid achieved almost 50 million hits, while more than five hundred influential guests were seen in the front row

MBFWMadrid closes a 79th edition with enormous media and social impact

Madrid, 21 February 2023 – The 79th edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, Spain’s most important fashion week, had a cultural and festive atmosphere that captivated a fashion-loving audience. This resounding success was made possible by the catwalk shows of 31 designers that took place in the Mercedes-Benz room in Hall 14.1 of IFEMA MADRID, which, together with a further seven shows held in different venues throughout the capital on Monday, 19 February, made for an exciting event brimming with creativity, talent and premium design.

These action-packed days at MBFWMadrid also had an impact in the digital world with the ‘Live fashion from the heart’ campaign on social networks, which achieved a never-before-seen impact in the social media environment with 50 million impacts on social platforms. This data establishes the image of MBFWMadrid as a major international fashion platform and one of the best-positioned on social networks.

    Official MBFWMadrid Party

Before starting the fashion shows, on Wednesday, 14 February, the Official MBFWMadrid Party was held in collaboration with ¡HOLA! magazine at the Teatro Real. A total of 300 faces from the world of fashion get together to start this very special edition on the right note. *Link to the photo gallery with all guest celebrities in the footer.

    Major collections by established designers

A total of 21 established designers brought their latest, greatest designs to the catwalk in the hope of getting a standing ovation from the audience. On Thursday, 15 February, Pedro del Hierro inaugurated the proceedings with ‘Borealis’, a collection inspired by the first aurora borealis of the year, and the day continued with Acromatyx, a collection dominated by black. Simorra then presented garments featuring three-dimensional fabrics capable of communicating a sense of history. Mans was first on in the afternoon, with fashions inspired by the English countryside and the Dandy aesthetic with emphasis on dresses. Later, Claro Couture transported the audience to Paris in the 1930s with a fusion of art and fashion. This was followed by Pablo Erroz, with Colombia as the main protagonist of his show, who presented the Pablo Erroz. The Club. Private’s Member Club collection; and to close, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada filled the catwalk with polka dots in her firm’s characteristic colours.

On Friday, 16 February, Canarian Paloma Suarez started the day with a collection called ‘Brave’, an exploration of new textile techniques and a broken colour palette. Isabel Sanchis‘ garments were the result of sculptural inspiration with a hyperbolic song of femininity. On the other hand, Hannibal Laguna took his presentation of ‘Moonglow’ to the runway, highlighting lunar magic in each of his looks, with a meteoric closure by model Valeria Mazza. To open the afternoon shift, Roberto Torretta and his 50 years in Spain were behind a new collection of traditional London-inspired tailoring and very feminine designs. Duyos was back with a focus on the importance of nature and craftsmanship in the Canary Islands. Meanwhile, Encinar drew inspiration from 1940s Spain and a woman who fascinated the country: the Countess of Romanones. The second session of MBFWMadrid was closed by Malne with ‘Revolution’, which oozed sophistication with seductive fabrics like silk, crepe and organza.

On Saturday, 17 February, INuñez and the firm’s original way of using colours to recall the different shades of the sky at dusk began the first show of the day. Odette Álvarez from Cantabria went back to her roots with the Angela Fall 24 collection. Marcos Luengo was back with ExMachina, named after the final audiovisual project of the author Ivan Dagal, fusing AI with craftsmanship. Fely Campo’s 50th anniversary in the fashion industry was marked with her most personal collection: The Way Here. International firm Custo Barcelona arrived in Madrid after showing at NY Fashion Week with its work We Art Custo with its traditional metallic colours. Lola Casademunt presented a strong collection with a great commitment to fashion as an attitude to life. And to bring the three busy, exciting days of fashion to a close, the firm Elio Berhanyer, with creative director Sergio de Lázaro at the helm, kept the audience in awe.

That same night, the winners of the L’Oréal Paris Award for Best Collection, which went to Elio Berhanyer, and the L’Oréal Paris Award for Best Model, awarded to Nathalia Novas, were announced.

On Sunday, 18 February, the Allianz EGO runway focused on emerging talents, starting the day with the announcement of the winner of the Allianz EGO Confidence in Fashion award, the Peruvian-Basque brand MAL Studio Custom Project, by designer Michelle Lima. The creator won the award as the best designer of the Allianz EGO Showroom. She will use her €6,000 prize to bring a new collection to life, which she will present in September 2024 on the Allianz EGO catwalk, as well as receive business advice to help drive her brand.

After this award, there were fashion shows by firms Coconutscankill (winner of the Allianz EGO Confidence award in Fashion in September 2023), Dimoni, Juan VG, Oriol Clavell, Evade House, Anystudio, Adriá Egea, Visori Studio, Peter Sposito Studio and Toronero, a designer from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico, who showed his designs at MBFWMadrid through the talent exchange of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award.

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award went to Peter Sposito Studio, a firm that will be able to show at the next edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Mexico. Zamora-born designer Peter Sposito won the 23rd edition of the award for best newcomer with his “The RTW Couture” collection, which dives into the very essence of life.

Last but not least, Monday, 19 February, was a day for fashion shows in the City, known as Desfiles en la Ciudad. Catwalk shows were held in several venues in Madrid (UDIT -University of Design, Innovation and Technology, followed by Andrew Pocrid, Roberto Verino, Rafael Urquizzar, Félix Ramiro, SKFK; Angel Schlesser, and Lafuente on Tuesday.

    The most influential catwalk

More than five hundred familiar faces were seen in the front rows of the catwalk shows. Among the guests were actresses Marisa Paredes, Miriam Giovanelli, Elena Rivero, Patricia Montero with her partner -and also an actor- Alex Adrover and Alvaro Morte. CibelFEST

For the first time at this edition, and with a programme of music and live performances, CibelFEST launched an event where gastronomy and entertainment took centre stage in the dynamic Cibelespacio area in parallel to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid shows. This made the event, along with the different activities in the personalised spaces of the sponsoring brands, a marvellous experience for the audience, who enjoyed performances by up-and-coming groups such as Çantamarta, Sienna, Marilia Monzon, Alejo in Acoustic and Ecstasy.

    Sponsors

MBFWMadrid has also had an important lineup of activations and actions organised by its sponsoring brands, whose support is indispensable to the success of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid. This time, around twenty sponsoring firms, such as Mercedes-Benz, L’Oréal Paris and Inditex, supported the event as main sponsors. Allianz, Iberia and Multiopticas were sponsors, while Dorsia Clinics, GHD, University of Design and Technology (UDIT), Samsung, the Community of Madrid, Málaga de Moda together with the corporate identity of the Provincial Council of Málaga, Junta de Castilla y León, Mar de Frades, Schweppes, Martin Miller’s Gin, MSD and the participation of ESDEN Business School were collaborators. ¡HOLA! TV was the international television channel of MBFWMadrid, and Telemadrid was the media collaborator of the event.

The 80th edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid will be held in September 2024 in Hall 14.1 of the IFEMA MADRID Recinto Ferial and different venues in the city.
