Growing up in Germany and of Ghanaian heritage, MiDi KwaKwa’s music is as dreamy as the songstress herself. Boasting an effortless and euphoric aura, MiDi’s latest neo-soul offering ‘More Than A Friend’ is the new soundtrack to your Sunday mornings.
Radiating ultimate sultry vibes with a touch of 70’s influence, the visual accompaniment of ‘More Than A Fried’ perfectly mirrors the delicate vocals. With visuals showcasing her creative flair that goes beyond her natural talents in storytelling and songwriting abilities, every aspect of ‘More Than A Friend’ perfectly encapsulates the story at hand of a frustrating situationship, but one that ends in self-love and realisation.
The Jannis Block production provides the blissed-out aura-type beat that you would expect across a neo-soul anthem and that is exactly what this is. MiDi’s smooth glossy vocals showcase the talents that you see across her music inspirations of Nina Simone and India Arie.
Speaking on the track, MiDi KwaKwa says:
“The song is about a girl who finds herself in a ‘situationship’ with a guy that she likes. I learned at the age of 25 how important it is to remove yourself from a toxic environment. I do not want to force anyone to be with me, if the person does not see the greatness I have to move on and never look back. After my last situationship I learned so much about the power I hold as a woman and the importance of releasing yourself from any environment that is not serving me spiritually, mentally and physically.”
Although beginning her career in music as a form of self-expression, MiDi’s promising catalogue proves that her songwriting abilities can flourish well beyond that and sees her as a serious one to watch as a well-rounded artist. With ‘More Than A Friend’ taken from MiDi’s upcoming project, 2022 is looking to be a strong year of releases for the emerging artist.
