Mansour Jahani, an independent and international cinema journalist, reported, Mohammad Rasoulof, the famous director of Iranian cinema, was released from prison; but he is the accused in another case, and if the court finds Rasoulof guilty in this case, he will face eight years in prison.

Mohammad Rasoulof was serving his two-year sentence brought against him in 2011 and 2019 on charges of spreading propaganda against the state. Rasoulouf, who had been on medical leave for a crucial surgery three weeks ago, received his release order today Monday, February 13, 2023, along with several other political prisoners. Therefore, Rasoulouf will not be sent back to prison to serve his time.

Although Rasoulouf is currently free, he is still being held in the revolutionary court for three fresh charges relating to illegal assembly and collusion against national security, insulting the regime leadership, and spreading propaganda against the state, which are being argued against him. Rasoulouf will be sentenced to eight years in prison if the revolutionary court finds him guilty of the three accusations mentioned above.
