A standout moment from the record, Not Perfect is a tender, bittersweet whimsical song of optimism and acceptance of the world`s and our own imperfections. With Minchin`s signature blend of lyrical elegance and wit, the track moves effortlessly between the cosmic and the personal, capturing the strange, flawed beauty of being human. Originally written during a period of creative uncertainty, the song has since become a fan favourite. Watch the official video for “Not Perfect”.

Tim Minchin said: In the category  lyrics Ive written that people have tattooed on their bodies, the line it`s not perfect but it`s mine is – as far as I can tell – the most common!  Not Perfect  was the encore for my very first Edinburgh show, Dark Side back in 2005, and it has had many iterations since, including the widely viewed orchestral version arranged by Iain Grandage. I have often introduced it with the line this is a song about that feeling you get when you feel like the smallest doll in a Babushka Doll, because it`s about being a self inside a mind inside a body inside a house inside a solar system. This studio version is a rethink: somewhere in between the intimacy of the solo version and the grandeur of the symphony orchestra… what I think of as a kinda campfire version. Plenty of acoustic guitar, and not too much drama. I like it.

TimMinchinTimeMachine is a curated collection of songs Minchin wrote in his 20s (1995-2005), but which were never studio recorded. Containing 11 tracks, the album reveals the clever lyricism, emotional candour and biting humour for which Minchin has become known in the last 20 years.

The release follows Minchin’s acclaimed 2020 debut studio album Apart Together, described by The Independent as “a tenderly considered pop album that subverts expectations.
