    Official awards of the 81st Venice International Film Festival Announced

    Official awards of the 81st Venice International Film Festival have been announced and “The Room Next Door” directed by Pedro Almodóvar won the Golden Lion Award.

    According to the report of Mansour Jahani, an independent and international cinema journalist, The closing ceremony of the 81st Venice international film festival with the performance of the famous Italian actress Sveva Alviti was held at 19:00 on September 7, 2024 at the Sala Grande movie theater in the city of Venice, Italy, and the winners of various competitive, including ; The Main Competition, the Orizzonti competition, the Immersive competition and the Orizzonti Extra were introduced and the prestigious Golden Lion award for the best film and other awards of this film event were awarded to the winners.

    The winners of the International Competition

    The International Jury for the main Competition of the 81st Venice Film Festival, consisted of 9 international film personalities including; Chaired by French actress Isabelle Huppert, American director and screenwriter James Gray; British director and screenwriter Andrew Haigh; Polish director, screenwriter and producer Agnieszka Holland; Brazilian director and screenwriter Kleber Mendonça Filho; Mauritanian director, screenwriter and producer Abderrahmane Sissako; Italian director and screenwriter Giuseppe Tornatore; German director and screenwriter Julia von Heinz; and Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, announced their opinions as follows:

    Golden Lion award

    Golden Lion for Best Film, to “The Room Next Door” directed by Pedro Almodóvar (Spain)

    Grand Jury Prize

    Silver Lion – Grand Jury Prize to: “VERMIGLIO” by Maura Delpero (Italy, France, Belgium)

    Best Director

    Silver Lion for Best Director to: Brady Corbet for the film “The Brutalist” (United Kingdom)

    Best Actress

    Coppa Volpi for Best Actress to: Nicole Kidman in the film “BABYGIRL” by Halina Reijn (United States)

    Best Actor

    Coppa Volpi for Best Actor to: Vincent Lindon in the film The Quiet Son by Delphine Coulin and Muriel Coulin (France)

    Best Screenplay

    Award for Best Screenplay to: Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega for the film “I’m Still Here” by Walter Salles (Brazil, France)

    Special Jury Prize

    Special Jury Prize to: “APRIL” by Dea Kulumbegashvili (France, Italy, Georgia)

    “Marcello Mastroianni” Award

    “Marcello Mastroianni” Award for Best Young Actor or Actress to: Paul Kircher in the film “And Their Children After Them” by Ludovic Boukherma and Zoran Boukherma (France)

    The winners of the Orizzonti competition

    The international jury of Orizzonti included Chaired by American director and screenwriter Debra Granik, the Iranian writer, director and producer Ali Asgari; Syrian film director and screenwriter Soudade Kaadan; Greek director, screenwriter and producer Christos Nikou; Swedish actress and director Tuva Novotny; Hungarian filmmaker Gábor Reisz; Italian screenwriter and director Valia Santella, announced their opinions as follows:

    Best Film

    Orizzonti Award for Best Film to: “The New Year That Never Came” by Bogdan Mureșanu (Romania, Serbia)

    Best Director

    Orizzonti Award for Best Director to: Sarah Friedland for the film “Familiar Touch” (United States)

    Special Orizzonti Jury Prize

    Special Orizzonti Jury Prize to: “One of Those Days When Hemme Dies” by Murat Fıratoğlu (Turkey)

    Best Actress

    Orizzonti Award for Best Actress to: Kathleen Chalfant in the film “Familiar Touch” by Sarah Friedland (United States)

    Best Actor

    Orizzonti Award for Best Actor to: Francesco Gheghi in the film “Familia” by Francesco Costabile (Italy)

    Best Screenplay

    Orizzonti Award for Best Screenplay to: Scandar Copti for the film “Happy Holidays” (Palestine, Germany, France, Italy, Qatar)

    Best Short Film

    Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film to: “Who Loves the Sun” by Arshia Shakiba (Canada)

    Orizzonti Extra

    The Armani Beauty Audience Award to: “The Witness” by Nader Saeivar (Germany, Austria)

    Venice Award for a Debut Film

    Chaired by Italian film critic Gianni Canova, the jury of the “Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award for a Debut Film will also include American writer and director Ricky D’Ambrose; Brazilian director, visual artist, actress and producer Barbara Paz; Canadian actress and director Taylor Russell; film festival curator and project market director Jacob Wong; Japan, has decided to award:

    Luigi De Laurentiis Venice Award

    Lion of the feature “Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award for a Debut Film to: “Familiar Touch” by Sarah Friedland (United States)

    Venice Classics Award

    The Venice Classics Jury, chaired by Renato De Maria and comprised of 24 students of Cinema, chosen from the professors of Italian University Cinema programmes, has decided to award:

    Best Documentary on Cinema

    Venice Classics Award for Best Documentary on Cinema to: “Chain Reactions” by Alexandre O. Philippe (United States)

    Best Restored Film

    Venice Classics Award for Best Restored Film to: “Ecce bombo” by Nanni Moretti (Italy, 1978)

    Venice Immersive

    The Venice Immersive Jury, chaired by Celine Daemen and comprised of Marion Burger e Adriaan Lokman, after viewing the 26 projects in competition has decided to award:

    Grand Prize

    Venice Immersive Grand Prize to: “Ito Meikyū” by Boris Labbé (France, Luxemburg)

    Special Prize

    Venice Immersive Special Prize to: “Oto’s Planet” by Gwenael François (Luxemburg, Canada, France)

    Achievement Prize

    Venice Immersive Achievement Prize to: “Impulse: Playing with Reality” by Barry Gene Murphy, May Abdalla (United Kingdom, France)

    The 81st Venice Film Festival, as the world’s oldest film event, is chaired by Alberto Barbera and with the screening of works by directors from different countries in the Competition, including; Main Competition, Orizzonti Competition, Immersive competition, as well as the out of competition; Special Screening, Orizzonti Extra, Venice Classics, College Cinema nad Best of Experiences in Best of Worlds, was held 28 August – 7 September 2024, in city Venice, Italy.
