1, What is your story and your becoming of a model, singer, pianists, Pageant Queen etc.?
I am Kathy Tan Her Lin, born in 2012 and study in Kualalumpur. Currently, I am finalist Face Of Asia Junior 2020.
Mom loves to memorise my childhood, so my first photoshoot was at 6 months-old. My first appearance on magazine when 2 years old as winner photo contest “Little Fashionista 2014” from Pregnancy Magazine (Vietnam).
Start modelling from 4 years old after I won cash prize “Top Vote 2016 Little Supermodel” organised by EVA.VN (Vietnam). Since then, I went through several shootings yearly for magazines covers and featured in multi languages English, Vietnam, Bahasa, Chinese… both print and online, just name a few: L’Officiel Kids (Baltic), Harper Bazaar Kids (Brazil), ShangTime (MY), MamaPapa (MY), Parenthoods (MY), SmartKids World (MY), Mom & Child (VN), Child Model (US), Wild Child (US), Model Citizen (US)…and hopefully FabUK Teen Magazine (UK) after this interview (laugh).
Mom sent me to first model school Amber Chia Academy when 5 years old, and then Runway Production Supermodel Search, which I entered finalist Top 20 Kids. I joined only 2 children pageant and won title “Tiny Princess Malaysia 2017” and then “Tiny Miss World 2018 Silver”. I was a very shy and crying girl, but after experiencing Little Miss World International stage, I learnt more confident. I am grateful to have opportunities modelling for Junior Look Book Kualalumpur (Active Fashion WorldWide Group) some fabulous brands 2018 collection Kenzo Kids, Emilio Pucci Junior, Lanvin Paris Junior, Young Versace, Moschino Kids…and opportunity catwalk at official Malaysia Fashion Week 2018, Penang Fashion Week 2019, Selangor Fashion Week 2019, Vietnam Junior Fashion Week Seasons 4-5-6 and BARBIE 60th Anniversary show.
I am not a singer, but I can sing lots of songs from Youtube and won Olympia Gold award for singing “How Far I Go” at Little Miss World 2018. Mom produced MV to memorise my childhood voice: cover A Million Dreams, Girl On Fire, Xue Mao Jiao… maybe more to come.
I am not a pianist, but I enjoy learning and love to play piano, mom always let me hear piano music every night when I sleep since born till now this habit remains, so it becomes natural hobby. I like to explore different songs from Simply Piano Apps.
I also love dance, I just start it, at 8 years old.
2, Do you enjoy being a model, singer or pianist more?
Well it is a hard decision… I enjoy all, but have to say that singing is my favourite, and sometimes my voice is too tired to sing (laugh)
3, What was your first ambition?
My first ambition is to become famous for doing modelling because it’s the easiest for me to learn.
4, Do you find performing enjoyable to you at such a young age?
Well, I never perform only catwalk, when I was young I was very shy, I would always cry, but after I went to more fashion shows, I didn’t feel shy as before.
5, Do you have any other hobbies you like to do?
I have many hobbies, which are singing, dancing, piano, golf, travelling, swimming especially mermaid swimming, and many more…
6, Which career path do you think you’ll choose when you grow older?
To be top model or beauty queen if grow up has enough height and become entrepreneur. I want to learn from mom, she was doing modelling some young memories and then turn to business woman.
7, If you never liked modelling, singing or playing the piano, what do you think you would do?
I would rather start drawing beautiful pictures and play Lego.
8, How have you come this far in your career?
I still keep exploring and learning new things and never think that is career, I will know how far I go when mature age 18.
9, Would you like to further your career even more and how do you plan to do that?
I would plan to practise more what I love, mom said that going school is most important and all other activities are just enrich our life experience, social learning, polish talents and entertainment. I try to be a better daughter.
10, Do you believe your career choice will not only affect you in a positive way but others?
I actually don’t understand this question much, it’s hard for me to answer (laugh). It maybe, not an influence but inspiration.
11, Who is your inspirational role model in and outside of the fashion industry?
I think nope. I got inspired modelling because my mother put me into photoshoot. I got inspired piano because I listen to it everyday when I sleep. I got inspired singing because I watch a lots YouTube and figure lots of songs and tried to sing them. I am happy on my own way.
12, Who would you like to thank the most for always being there for you in and outside of your career?
I would like to thank my best mom because she always care and love when was little baby, always advise me to try good things and encourage me do it better. My social media all managed by mom, I only can find myself on Google (laugh).
