Raphaël Personnaz (French actor), Sveva Alviti (Italian actress and model) and James Watkins (British director) join the Jury of the 30th Dinard Film Festival.
Before his career took off with The Princess of Montpensier directed by Bernard Tavernier – who also picked him for The French Minister – Raphaël Personnaz had appeared in films by Sam Karmann, Gérard Jugnot and Anne Le Ny. Multi-talented, he had acted in romcoms (The Stroller Strategy), historical dramas (The Gate), adventure stories (In the Forests of Siberia), or thrillers (SK1). He crossed the Channel twice to play opposite Keira Knightley and Jude Law in Anna Karenina and Ralph Fiennes in The White Crow. In 2018, he obtained the Molière award for best one-man show for his play Vous n’aurez pas ma haine (You will not have my hatred) adapted from the eponymous book by Antoine Leiris about the terrorist attack on the Bataclan theatre. He currently stars in Persona non grata, by Roshdy Zem.
Sveva Alviti
Born on July 14th, the French national holiday, Sveva Alviti is an Italian actress and model. She set out on a career in tennis but changed tracks when she won a modelling contest her sister had entered her in. She moved to New York and modelled for nine years while taking on small roles such as in the series La mia casa è piena di specchi with Sophia Loren. Liza Azuelos picked her among over 250 candidates to play the star in her biopic, Dalida, one of the most eagerly-anticipated films of 2017, a great boost to her acting career. The following year, she appeared with Kev Adams and Marc Lavoine in Love Addict, by Frank Bellocq, followed by Lukas by Julien Leclercq, starring alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kaaris and Sami Bouajila.
James Watkins
The Dinard Film festival has often put the spotlight on makers of genre films, such as Christopher Smith in 2017. The festival is pleased this year to invite James Watkins to walk up the red carpet. Watkins became known with Eden Lake, a horror film about a gang of persecuting teenagers – Thomas Turgoose, Shane Meadow’s favourite actor, is one of them – who have decided to ruin the romantic weekend of a young couple played by Kelly Reilly and Michael Fassbender. Watkins also directed The Woman in Black with Daniel Radcliffe – who had just finished the Harry Potter series – and Bastille Day, with Idris Elba, Charlotte Le Bon et José Garcia. He also directed the Shut up and Dance episode of the Black Mirror series as well as all eight episodes of the BBC’s McMafia series.
Once again, Dinard is delighted to become a British enclave on Breton soil for five days by offering the general public and professionals alike a selection of films in competition, previews and retrospectives, special screenings and discussions, as well as masterclasses and tributes to the greatest British directors and actors. These screenings and events will be attended by prestigious guests, the crews of the films in competition and the Jury chaired by Sandrine Bonnaire.
True to the legendary British phlegm and sense of humour, the Dinard Film Festival sets out to fulfil its mission once again: to enable rare, original, independent films to find distributors and reach a wide French audience.
