Light Festival in the Alps honors water

The biggest light festival ever in the Alps is now taking place. The theme is water, mountain water, that is melting while giving life to all in the Alps.

It is hosted by the old bishop city of Brixen dating back to before 901. An area in the Dolomites and close to the Brenner Pass, where rivers of mountain water are creating all food and life but melting.

The bishop of the region lives in Brixen.

24 international acclaimed artists have been asked to create big outdoor light installations about water.

The organizer Werner Zanotti, Managing Director Water Light festival and Brixen Culture Association explains, that the artist was asked to build the light installations around the 26 old water fountains in the city with fresh, direct drinkable mountain water. Not to be political, but to use art, to make us think.

    “People don’t really recognize the value of water, but putting so much, let’s say focus on water, makes more people think of its value, real value. How important it is.”
