This year again, the Dinard Film Festival is honoured to welcome a great film personality as the president of its 2019 Jury. Whether as an actress, filmmaker or scriptwriter, Sandrine Bonnaire, a major figure in French cinema, has been showing the many facets of her talent since 1984 when she got the César Award for Most Promising Actress for her performance in Maurice Pialat’s À nos amours.
During her outstanding career comprising numerous films and prizes, Sandrine Bonnaire received the César Award for Best Actress in Agnès Varda’s Sans toit ni loi (Vagabond) in 1986 and, in 1995, the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her performance in Claude Chabrol’s La Cérémonie, a film set on the Emerald Coast in which she masterfully played the illiterate, disturbing servant of a bourgeois family. In 1999, she returned to Saint-Malo with Claude Chabrol to play Viviane Sterne in Au cœur du mensonge.
Sandrine Bonnaire has worked with France’s greatest film directors, such as Patrice Leconte, Jacques Rivette, André Techiné and Claude Sautet. Furthermore, her work as a documentary director (Elle s’appelle Sabine, Jacques Higelin, Marianne Faithfull) as well as for the stage (Le miroir de Jade, 2015) has been widely acclaimed. In 2019 she appeared in Marion Laine’s TV drama, Ce soir là et les jours d’après, based on the terrorist attack at the Bataclan, and in Nicolas Boukhrief’s Trois jours et une vie, adapted from Pierre Lemaitre’s eponymous novel.
Once again, Dinard is delighted to become a British enclave on Breton soil for five days by offering the general public and professionals alike a selection of films in competition, previews and retrospectives, special screenings and discussions, as well as masterclasses and tributes to the greatest British directors and actors. These screenings and events will be attended by prestigious guests, the crews of the films in competition and the Jury chaired by Sandrine Bonnaire.
True to the legendary British phlegm and sense of humour, the Dinard Film Festival sets out to fulfil its mission once again: to enable rare, original, independent films to find distributors and reach a wide French audience.
