With three weeks until the doors open at the iconic Saatchi Gallery, contemporary show Scoop has revealed a tantalising line-up of “new faces” set to showcase their SS20 collections amongst a backdrop of world-class art and installations from the new Sweet Harmony exhibition.

From the 21st – 23rd July, a carefully curated and enticing selection of new designers including Cecilie Copenhagen, Suncoo, A Kjærbede, Mhudi, M.A.B.E., Kleed Kimonos, and Maison Johanna Braitbart will wow visitors with their creativity, global inspiration and contemporary design. The celebration, reinvention and reinterpretation of traditional and artisanal crafts is an enduring trend for SS20. Here is a sneak preview curated by Scoop’s Founder and Managing Director Karen Radley.

Stocked in Galeries Lafayette, BHV Swamp, Haussmann Spring, and Citadium Caumartin, Suncoo is profoundly Parisian and contemporary, created in 2010 from the meeting of two aesthetes, Stella and Thomas, breathing a powerful sense of freedom into the women’s wardrobe. Stella Tang founder and artistic director of Suncoo reveals what to expect from her latest work showing at Scoop; “The SS20 collection tells new stories. Each theme is related to a voyage of discovery. From the urban jungle to the romantic escape, the new wardrobe is an invitation to travel, to escape, to dream.”

Launching at Scoop this season are the beautifully crafted clothes of M.A.B.E, every piece a joyful and timeless wardrobe keepsake and a celebration of traditional handicrafts. Each style comes with intricate embroidery and print, as well as artisanal embroidery techniques such as Aari, Chikankari, Kantha, Shisha and Banjara.

Since its launch in 2016, Carolina Guedes Cruz’s fashion brand Kleed has been synonymous with chic African wildlife patterned kimonos and loungewear. The one-time fashion executive for Gucci and Dunhill continues to volunteer on conservation projects in Namibia, Botswana and South Africa and the African ethos is ever-present in each collection: beautiful design-led wildlife prints, an African animal embroidered on every article, or a clothing label attached with a string of colourful Maasai beads.

Founded in 2012 when Cecilie Jorgensen was still studying at the Danish Fashion Design Academy Cecilie Copenhagen has now become a rather cult label adopting different cultures and styles. Stocked in Browns and Farfetch, its free-spirited charm meets Scandinavian design-led simplicity with pared-back silhouettes crafted from soft natural fabrics, invigorated with contrasting shades and eye-catching motifs.

Kyomai Bags give a second life to these exceptional materials. Carefully selected vintage obis are sourced in Kyoto before travelling to Reims, France where the clutches are handcrafted.

Johanna Braitbart’s unique hair accessory and hat creations are handmade in her studio in the Marais, in the basement of Boudoir 26. In 1999, she opened her first shop in the Marais and is now stocked in Le Bon Marché, Mademoiselle Chapeaux, Isetan and Takashimaya.

Designed to preserve the environment and cultures of Tanzania, visitors to Scoop will view restyled and reinterpreted unique pieces handcrafted by Maasai women with both a traditional and fashion-led aesthetic.

Founded in Gothenburg, Sneaky Steve’s footwear comes from the hearts, souls and dirty hands of people with passion; truly authentic and well-crafted in the best leather in a world of mass-produced disposables. Each design is inspired by its founding city’s industrial heritage, rainy winters, and thriving underground cultures, where the music scene is always alive and where legions of fashion designers have started on their journey.

Cordwainer’s graduate Luna Amani has been designing women’s accessories for more than 20 years. Inspired by her rich Persian heritage and her beloved Persian aunties who made her clothes as a child, Luna designs her collections reflecting on her childhood of memories in Iran and the 21st-century sensibilities of a designer committed to giving something back.
