Intricately fusing an archetypically British sound, rap flows and a pop twist, SLANG premieres his latest endeavour ‘Dancer’ via Complex.
A prominent, cheery, percussion led beat fuses with a cheeky delivery and lyrical scamper as SLANG narrates a night out with his focus being fixed on a fine young lady that has the world on a string. The lead single is taken from his upcoming 4 track EP ‘Terms and Conditions’, which delves into multiple concepts including songs about falling in love and emotions, through to dealing with suicide and addiction; all tied together with honest and powerful lyrics.
SLANG’s eclectic musical venture began amidst the initial wave of Grime during his time with the Gritty Committee collective and their sets at the pirate station Freeze 92.7. A pivotal landmark in his career involved the transition from the underground scene into the mainstream music industry via a succession of collaborations with Wiley, which culminated in his first release as a producer with the record ‘Bright Lights’, a link up between ZDOT, Wiley, Giggs and Roc-A-Fella rapper Juelz Santana. Under the name of Dan Dare, SLANG has also worked with artists such as Marina and The Diamonds, Charli XCX, Mario and WSTRN who similarly transitioned between the realms of the underground and mainstream music scene.
As an artist, SLANG has developed and nurtured his own unique, experimental style, which has undoubtedly been influenced by the talent he has worked so closely with over the years. This insight and inspiration has become an intrinsic cog to his sound and ‘Dancer’ provides a welcome outline of how SLANG makes music on his own ‘Terms and Conditions’.
