Morocco — Studio Sana Benzaitar, a female-led design studio, is bringing global attention to the artistry of Moroccan women weavers by creating contemporary handmade rugs rooted in centuries-old traditions.

Founded with a strong social mission, Studio Sana Benzaitar challenges a long-standing industry norm in which women weavers’ work was historically sold and represented by men. The studio places women at the center of both creation and recognition, empowering skilled artisans while preserving ancestral weaving techniques.

Each rug produced by the studio is entirely handcrafted, a process that takes several weeks from design to completion. Using premium Moroccan wool sourced from the Middle Atlas Mountains, the rugs feature a tight double-knot weave known for its durability and refined finish. The collections range from neutral-toned rugs designed for minimalist interiors to vibrant statement pieces such as the studio’s signature Vagues de Couleurs rug and the abstract Tegda runners, which have become hallmarks of the brand.

No two pieces are alike. Every rug carries its own personality, blending tradition with modern design while celebrating Moroccan cultural identity. The studio describes its work as storytelling through textiles, where shared heritage and personal narratives are woven together.

Founder Sana Benzaitar explains that inspiration comes from many sources, including Moroccan culture, personal history, travel, and direct collaboration with the weavers themselves. “Sometimes a design is born from an exchange with a weaver,” she says. “Two worlds that seem opposite can unite in one pattern. By weaving, we tell stories that everyone can interpret in their own way.”

With a 100% female team, exceptional craftsmanship, and a commitment to ethical production, Studio Sana Benzaitar is positioning itself as a leading voice in contemporary Moroccan design—where creative exchange meets artistic expression, and tradition is honored with intention and integrity.
