The British Motor Show announces The Alternative Drive expErience, with AFC Energy as official EV charging partner

After announcing its prestigious return in 2020, The British Motor Show continues to reveal more detail behind the diverse and interactive show content, making this a show like no other.

The latest element of the show to be revealed is the unique Alternative Drive expErience, or ADe for short.

The ADe will be an interactive feature as part of the “Future Tech” element, giving show visitors the chance to get behind the wheel of Electric, Hybrid and Hydrogen vehicles to experience for themselves how the vehicles drive, many for the first time.
All manufacturers exhibiting at The British Motor Show will automatically be able to place vehicles in the ADe, giving them a chance to offer literally thousands of consumers the chance to experience Electric Vehicles and their products first hand.

This is the first time anything like this has been offered at a Motor Show and is just one of the ways that customers can get up close and personal with the latest technology that is on offer.

AFC Energy will not only be sponsoring the Alternative Driving expErience, they will also be the show’s official EV charging partner.

AFC Energy is a leading provider of hydrogen power generation technologies, and launched its H-PowerTM EV Charger System on the 5th December. This revolutionary zero emission Charger unit offers a unique solution to several of today’s EV infrastructure challenges.  Allowing off grid charging anywhere at any time through Fuel cell technology.

In order to showcase this revolutionary technology, every vehicle taking part in the Alternative Drive expErience will be charged fully off grid by AFC Energy’s H-Power technology, meaning the event will be completely self-sufficient and zero emission.

Andy Entwistle, Chief Executive of the British Motor Show said “The British Motor Show is committed to supporting the industry and encouraging consumers to sample the latest technology and vehicles available. The Alternative Drive expErience has been designed to help get visitors into exhibitors’ cars and address some of the “fear” that they may have about making the change”. “The world is seeing a rapid transition towards battery powered vehicles and it’s critical that the motoring industry offer up new and innovative solutions to address the key infrastructure challenges associated with EV take up by consumers.

We see AFC Energy’s EV charger solution as just that.  Offering a zero emission, rapid charge, modular solution to the estimated £50bn grid upgrade requirements foreseen by EV roll out, not only makes sense from a grid perspective, but also forms a key part of the strategy for decarbonisation of today’s transportation system.  We are very excited to be partnering with a home-grown British tech company as we deliver a world class motoring experience to the UK next year.”

Adam Bond, Chief Executive Officer of AFC Energy, added “The British Motor Show is one of the world’s iconic motoring events with such a rich heritage in leading innovative engineering and design excellence over many decades.  It is a privilege to have been recognised in such an illustrious setting as the Motor Show and play a small part in this new leadership role as we advance into a new era of highway electrification.  This journey begins with today’s launch of our H-PowerTM EV Charger.  With such a global showcase of world leading automotive manufacturers, this is a standout opportunity to highlight the benefits of AFC Energy’s zero emission EV charging solutions and the benefit this can bring to the world’s transition to an electrified vehicle future”.
