MILAN — On Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM, fashion label HUI Milano debuted its Spring/Summer 2027 collection during Milan Fashion Week. Titled THE FAN CODE, the presentation used an iconic element of Eastern culture—the circular fan—as a entry point to explore memory, modern identity, and the role of women in preserving and transforming tradition.
Under the creative direction of Huizhou Zhao, founder of the brand and an ambassador of China Style in Italy, the collection moved beyond simple cultural symbols. Rather than reproducing literal historical forms, the label examined how Chinese culture continues to express itself through human interaction, physical gestures, and daily practices.
Dialogue Across Red Threads
The runway show opened with a performance in an ancient Italian courtyard. A Western performer navigated a network of taut red threads stretched across the space, symbolizing time, memory, and the connections bridging East and West.
Holding a circular fan, the performer moved through the web in a ritual of gradual discovery. As she untangled the final thread and opened the fan, the music shifted, signaling the entrance of the first model onto the runway.
Culture Carried by Craft
A core theme of THE FAN CODE is the connection between women, collective memory, and cultural transmission. Zhao drew inspiration from the Miao women of Guizhou, China, who have passed down regional history and artisan techniques for generations through weaving, embroidery, dyeing, and sewing.
In Zhao’s vision, tradition is a living, evolving material rather than an untouchable artifact. The Eastern woman portrayed in the collection is an active participant in this evolution—free to inherit, adapt, or redefine her heritage.
Translating Heritage into Contemporary Fashion
The Spring/Summer 2027 line translates historical motifs, textures, and traditional craftsmanship into modern design elements:
- Materials: Printed silks and translucent textiles are layered against structured fabrics to balance softness with tailor-made precision.
- Silhouettes: Historical imagery and patterns are fragmented and reassembled into contemporary proportions.
