London banker Robert Atkinson risks his job when he steals money from his bank in an action that eventually leads him to Amsterdam in the new thriller ’The Host.’
’The Host,’ which opens in cinemas and VOD internationally from 17th January, in a film directed by Andy Newbery and produced by Zachary Weckstein, goes into deep detail about the horrible consequences Atkinson (Mike Beckingham) unwittingly encounters when he is asked by a Chinese cartel to transport a briefcase to Amsterdam to pay for his gambling debts. But all is not as it seems in a city veiled by dark secrets. He is led as a pawn to a residence with a much darker secret, a secret he could not have imagined and one he definitely isn’t prepared for. But when he falls off the radar, it’s up to his brother (played by McFly’s Dougie Poynter) to look for him in a city which is run by the rich and powerful.
This includes the home of an unassuming Dutch woman (played by Maryam Hassouni) who has many dark and deep secrets – her beautiful looks are very deceiving. Also on the trail are investigators Nigel Barber and Suan-Li Ong who are trying to snag the Chinese drug smugglers with Robert’s help. Sir Derek Jacobi also makes a cameo as psychologist Dr. Hobson.
THE HOST is the first-ever internationally distributed, English speaking, Dutch feature film and filmed in both London and Amsterdam. It’s got lots of twist and turns and will take you for a ride.
