Just Eat Reveals the Uk’s Favourite Choice of Takeaway-flavoured Doughnut

London
: In celebration of Just Eat’s upcoming Food Fest: Taste Adventure, the takeaway app surveyed the nation* to find out which artisan takeaway-flavoured doughnut Brits would most like to try. And the winner is – “vegan Margherita pizza”.

The flavour topped the list of savoury takeaway options such as vegan Sausage roll, avocado rich Mexican guacamole, Smokey American cheeseburger, and the takeaway classic Indian Masala.

The nation’s chosen takeaway doughnut flavour, vegan Margherita pizza, is filled with a delicious sweet tomato sauce and encased in a luxurious flat savoury doughnut – topped with delicious vegan mozzarella and fresh basil. Just Eat is working with restaurant partner  Dum Dums Donutterie to produce the tantalising savoury doughnut.

50% of those quizzed by Just Eat said, if offered, they would try a savoury takeaway-flavoured doughnut over a classic flavour such as jam, with 53% of people describing themselves as adventurous when it comes to trying new foods.

Adventure has its rewards, 9 in 10 Brits stated that they have been hesitant to try a curious sounding dish, but then been surprised how delicious it is.

Artisan doughnuts, freakshakes, and other photogenic “Instaworthy” desserts are becoming more popular across the UK.

While foodie trends are influencing what young adults post on their social channels, it seems social media is equally shaping modern tastes (and taste buds), with one-third now saying they would buy food from cafes, restaurants and takeaways primarily because of how it looks and how “postable” it is.

In fact, only one in 10 said that taste was as important as appearance. Surprisingly this view was not limited to teens and young adults; a third of 35 to 44-year-olds shared this opinion as well as three in ten 25 to 34-year-olds.

Food vanity wasn’t the only trend to come out of Just Eat’s survey – the results and winner also correlated with Britain’s rapid rise in veganism.

Almost half of Brits said they have tried vegan food and enjoyed it, a further fifth said that although they have not tried vegan food, they would like to. Both first (vegan Margherita pizza) and second (vegan sausage roll) place in the survey went to vegan takeaway doughnut flavours.

With these results, it can be assumed that the UK’s interest in social media and veganism continue to rise, and with Just Eat’s annual Food Fest around the corner, consumers will get their chance to snap the vegan Margherita pizza Doughnut, and post away on their social channels for all to see!

Samples of the vegan Margherita pizza Doughnut, which were made in collaboration with Just Eat restaurant partner, Dum Dums Donutterie, will be available at this year’s Just Eat Food Fest: Taste Adventure, from 25th – 26th July in Shoreditch’s 93 Feet East, on Friday between 6pm – 7pm, and Saturday between 2pm – 3pm. In what Just Eat are calling “Doughnut Hour”.

Food Fest will offer two days of live music, cocktails and Just Eat’s favourite takeaway dishes – with an immersive twist. Guests can follow up to six different tantalising taste trails making choices at key points which will influence the taste adventure each guest will experience across the various festival zones. Mysterious routes will lead festival-goers to their own delicious world of foodie experiences.
