The Mall Galleries in London is the UK’s leader in contemporary, figurative art and a visual arts charity empowering artists, founded in 1961. The gallery is run by leading and acclaimed figurative artists who curate the gallery’s collection, organised into annual shows for its famous member societies. It is a powerful resource for experiencing and sourcing figurative art which is both available to buy and endorsed by leading artists.

“Awaiting the Hearse, Buckingham Palace” by Peter Brown – oil on board, 8 x 24 inches, £4,850

From Friday 23rd June 2023 until Saturday 1st July 2023, the Mall Galleries will be showing The New English Art Club’s Annual Exhibition. The exhibition will also be previewed online at  www.mallgalleries.org.uk/ (FROM WEDNESDAY 31ST MAY 2023), where work can be also bought.

The exhibition will showcase around 400 works for sale which represent the very best in figurative, observational and painterly work. Works will be affordable (last year, the average price for exhibited work was £2,295) and include beautiful paintings, drawing and prints by well-known artists who are NEAC elected members and by emerging artists who are submitting fresh work to the show. The very best work in the Annual Exhibition will be recognised with prizes and awards worth a total of £10,000.

With works shown going through a rigorous selection process, the NEAC has from its outset sought out strong developing artists at an early stage in their career, the Annual Exhibition presents a wonderful opportunity to purchase curated artwork for your home which will likely grow in value over time. Please see above, one of the works which will be included in the 2023 NEAC Annual Exhibition, a moving piece capturing a historic moment, as crowds soberly and respectfully gather at Buckingham Palace to watch the passing of HRH Queen Elizabeth II’s hearse.

If you are quick enough, you may even be able to buy the most acclaimed work in the exhibition which scoops the NEAC’s Doreen McIntosh headline prize- awarded to the artist whose work fulfils the New English’s ideals of rigour, immediate engagement with the visual and a searching attitude.

Founded in the 19th Century, the New English Art Club traces its history through artists as diverse as Stanley Spencer, David Bomberg, Vanessa Bell and Gwen John. More recent exhibitors include Royal Academicians such as Humphrey Ocean, Anthony Green and Anthony Eyton.

Mall Galleries empowers artists through a not-for-profit programme of exhibitions and events, prizes and awards, with a focus on figurative art. Managed by the Federation of British Artists, a visual arts charity founded in 1961, Mall Galleries offers learning and engagement opportunities for everyone.
