New York – Christie’s New York online sale of Handbags & Accessories: The New York Edit (May 26 – June 9) achieved a total of $3,630,250 with 155% hammer above low estimate and 98% sold by lot. Continuing on the success of the season, this sale sets a new record for a New York Handbags sale and showcases both the strength of the market and unmatched Christie’s expertise. Additionally, 85% of lots hammered at or above their low estimate and 61% of lots hammered at or above the high estimate. There were registrants from 41 countries with 35% new to Christie’s.

Leading the sale was rare matte bleu Faubourg Birkin 20 from the Collection of JaneFinds™ that sold for over twice its estimate achieving $200,000. Other notable results included a Himalaya Birkin 35 that realized $137,500; a Shearling Teddy Kelly 35 that sold for $75,000; a limited edition bleu Cargo Birkin 35 that achieved $62,500 against its low estimate of $15,000; and a limited edition Picnic Kelly 35 that sold for $56,250. Alongside this outstanding selection of handbags, this auction also featured accessories, fashion jewelry and lifestyle pieces including a bicycle by Hermès that sold for $3,500; and surfboard by Chanel which achieved $11,250.

The auction season continues with Jewels & Handbags Online: The London Edit taking place from June 9 to 23. The London sale will present  four one-of-a-kind pieces from Marni’s SS21 Marnifesto collection, sold to benefit the Alliance of Artists Communities, an international association of artist residencies that support artists of any discipline in the development of new creative work.
