Under Canvas Yosemite has officially announced its first-ever California camp will open in the spring of 2025. The brand’s 12th camp, Under Canvas Yosemite, is set in a serene, mountainside forest surrounded by mature, Yosemite-native trees, just 10 minutes from the west entrance of Yosemite National Park at Big Oak Flat Information Station in Tuolumne County. The idyllic, 80-acre camp is within close proximity to Hetch Hetchy Reservoir and Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias for gentle hiking opportunities. In addition, it has a YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) stop directly across from the camp’s entrance, offering car-free access into the national park multiple times each day.

The much-anticipated Under Canvas Yosemite will open for its inaugural season on 22 May 2025, and is accepting reservations for stays until 27 October 2025 with rates starting at £255 per night.

“Under Canvas’ expansion into California has been our goal since the brand’s inception in 2012,” said Matt Gaghen, chief executive officer of Under Canvas. “We look forward to bringing the Under Canvas experience to Yosemite, home to many outdoor enthusiasts and a sought-after destination for adventure travellers around the globe. Our spectacularly beautiful property will offer exceptional access to one of the most iconic national parks in the country, inviting guests to discover the beauty of the park and immersion in nature in an entirely new way.”

As California’s most-visited national park, located in the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains, Yosemite National Park is known for its multiple waterfalls, including Yosemite Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in the country; giant sequoia groves; the sheer granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome; two remaining glaciers, and more with the lions share falling within Tuolumne County.

Under Canvas’ Adventure Concierge can assist guests in booking in-park and local experiences–from rafting, rock climbing and fly fishing, to guided hiking, driving tours, photography classes and more.

Each of the safari-inspired tents will be furnished with plush king-size beds, luxe linens, USB charging packs, bedside lanterns, heated mattress pads, a private deck, and ensuite bathroom that features a hot shower, sink and flushing toilet. Unique lodging tent accommodations will include the brand’s proprietary Stargazer Tents, complete with a viewing window above the bed – perfect for stargazing – as well as the El Capitan Suite Tent, featuring two tents adjoined by a private deck, with its own outdoor area – perfect for the ultimate family or group getaway.

The camp’s lobby tent will feature communal lounge spaces, dining areas and open game areas, all just steps away from an expansive, onsite yoga deck. The dining program will showcase al fresco and indoor café-style dining, serving freshly made, seasonal dishes and offering a selection of curated California wines and craft beers. Grab-‘n-go lunch items and snacks, perfect for fueling the day’s adventure,  will be available for purchase throughout the day. Under Canvas Yosemite will also offer complimentary onsite programming for guests, including acoustic live music, daily yoga, kids’ activities, nightly s’mores and more.

A cornerstone of the Under Canvas experience is the brand’s Mindful Approach with camps designed to minimise disturbance, maximise open spaces, and flow with the natural topography of the land. In an effort to reduce energy and water usage, reduce carbon footprint, and maximise guests’ immersion in nature, Under Canvas camps do not offer Wi-Fi but do feature pull-chain showers, low-flow toilets, rechargeable battery pack chargers, and low-level lighting. In fact, the brand’s commitment to minimise light pollution and protecting the night sky are setting the standard in the industry, which has recognised Under Canvas for having the first-ever DarkSky-certified lodging properties in the world.

This welcome addition to the Groveland accommodation offering in Tuolumne County will join the recently opened Firefall Ranch Resort at Yosemite. Head to visittuolumne.com for more information.
