White Milano: Nana-nana is the September Edition’s Guest Designer
Founded in 2007 by Hisato Takenouchi in Tokyo, the brand’s creative path has been clear-cut from the very onset, collaborating with international artists and brands to produce accessories, also limited edition ones, and designing everyday items with an artistic approach.
In 2017 designer Takanohiro Okude joined the label, his creativity stirred by music, art and design. We owe to him the creation of the iconic paper size A and B bag, inspired, as the name suggests, by the most popular formats of paper.
I feel honored that nana-nana has been picked as Guest Designer for this edition of WHITE MILANO – so Hisato Takenouchi, CEO and Founder of the brand – White is the Italian trade show that, more than any other, is fine-tuned with our brand, and Milan is the ideal city to showcase our artistic expressions.
Milan has indeed been chosen as the second leg – after Los Angeles – of the Akira Art Wall Project x nana-nana / Katsuhiro Otomo x Kosuke Kawamura, a travelling installation created to celebrate one of the most famous manga cyberpunks in the world, Akira, conceived by Otomo Katsuhiro in 1982.
Akira recounts of a hypothetical apocalyptic scenario in the aftermath of a bomb blast in 1982 in Tokyo, which foreshadows a new world war. Yet, the ingenuity of the artist lies in setting the story in 2019, in a Neo-Tokyo, totally rebuilt after the explosion.
Now that 2019 is here, nana-nana has chosen Milan to shed a spotlight on the work by manga artist, screenwriter and film director Katsuhiro with an installation at Officina 31, via Tortona 31, alongside the works by Kosuke Kawamura and the presentation of a limited-edition bag inspired by Akira’s art.
