WICA – experience, class and female activism awarded by Claudia Conte during the Venice Film Festival a few days after the opening of the 79th Venice Film Festival we meet one of the organizers – the young and vibrant Claudia Conte. Cultural entrepreneur and activist for women’s rights, she is the producer and ambassador of Women in Cinema Award – an international award under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture that promotes female talent and gender parity in cinema with a particular focus on the social activities.
The fifth edition of WICA will be held on September 6 at the Excelsior hotel in Lido di Venezia and is dedicated to the Turkish producer and journalist Cigdem Mater, sentenced to 18 years in prison along with other activists for the anti-government protests in Gezi Park in 2013. Together with Cigdem Mater, WiCA wants to remember all the women who at this moment cannot make their voices heard because they are victims of authoritarian regimes or in dramatic conditions.
In fact, an award will go to the Ukrainian actress Darya Tregubova to symbolically express solidarity and closeness to all Ukrainian women who have lived the horror of war since February 24th. During the fifth edition of WICA, the designer Anna Fendi will be awarded to underline the strong bond that unites cinema with the excellence of Fendi, which over time has collaborated with the greatest directors and costume designers to create memorable films of international success.
Anna Fendi embodies two of the excellences of the Italian creative industry that represent us in the world: Fashion and Cinema. Claudia Conte for the occasion will wear a creation of the Maison Fendi. During the evening will be also awarded Malika Ayane, one of the most loved and respected singers of the Italian music scene and Audrey Diwan, director and screenwriter French winner of the Golden Lion at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.
