Swedish singer-songwriter Winona Oak has shared a new single ‘Inside Out’ featuring Boy in Space. The track comes ahead of her EP ‘Void’ released on 3rd May via Nettwerk.
Winona Oak has delved into her songwriting after re-introducing herself with new music last year, seeking a more unvarnished sound that meant her poetic voice had nowhere to hide. The outcome is some of her most raw and authentic work yet, with a profound depth to her writing, as seen across her strong collection of recent singles, ‘With Or Without You’, ‘Fire Escapes’, ‘Fragile Thing’ and ‘If I Were To Die’.
New single ‘Inside Out’ reflects on unconditional love and enjoying everything that makes someone who they are. Featuring Swedish singer-songwriter Boy in Space, the synth-pop track builds delicately, leading into an expansive and emotive chorus of poignant lyrics with both voices perfectly complimenting one another.
Winona says; “This song describes a story of self-reflection and unconditional love. Sometimes I just wish that I could see myself through someone else’s eyes, see the things that I don’t see, all the reasons they love me. Real love means loving someone from the inside out, flaws and scars, everything that makes them who they are.”
“Musically, I feel like it’s taking me to a new universe. I don’t know where to place it or what to compare it to. Maybe that’s why Boy In Space fits so well duetting with me on this record, we are both out there singing somewhere in synth space.”
Winona has announced the release of a new EP ‘Void’, which she will be announcing the tracklisting for soon, and will be released via Nettwerk on 3rd May. It can be pre-ordered here. Discussing the EP, she says;
“Last year was by far the worst year of my life. When my mom passed away, I lost a part of myself that I will never get back. I’ve never felt so empty, so far from the person that I used to be. Living with grief is like learning how to live with half a heart. Everything is a constant reminder of what could have been. This EP was created in the middle of the chaos, with a void inside my chest. All the lyrics are raw and unfiltered, there’s parts of me in these songs that will tell you more about me than I could ever explain.”
“I feel very lucky to have such beautiful collaborators and friends that made it possible for me to be completely vulnerable. Every songwriter and producer on this record has played an important part of my journey and I could never thank them enough for helping me turn my pain into art. Following her debut album ‘Island of the Sun’ last year, her recent singles, alongside her forthcoming new EP ‘Void’, mark an exciting new musical chapter for Winona with more new music to come this year.
