Cinema is a collection of moving pictures left behind by time travellers. The spirits brought to life by actors and actresses are no longer lost forever.

While the industry produces works that won’t go beyond simple myths, some films become unforgettable with their plots, narrative styles, and the cinematographic techniques employed.

One such film is “Yemek Türkiye” (Dining Turkey), initiated by FabUK Production and 24 Kare Yapım in Turkey. Directed by nine directorsnin nine cities under the general direction of Ali Kaygısız, the film weaves different stories around the central backbone.

Food is the singular point that brings people with diverse stories and perspectives together. Regardless of where arguments begin, they end at the dinner table. Although meals are derived from the combination of various foods, what truly comes together are human stories. Each meal is a reflection of different emotional states. In this aspect, humans and food are remarkably alike.

Actor Erdal Erbaş as Horace Walpole

The English writer, art historian, antiquarian, and politician Horace Walpole is portrayed on the silver screen through the pen of Turkish screenwriter Ebru Cengiz Ergen. In the film “Yemek Türkiye,” Walpole strives to create a flavour destined to be remembered for generations, a tribute to the memory of his mother, which he describes as the “most powerful emotion of his entire life.” As time flows in parallel, two souls, bound by a common ambition and having endured enough trials, eventually cross paths in the tapestry of time. As the contestant who came in last in Turkey’s most-watched cooking competition, Rüya, feeling humiliated, aims to redeem her honour by designing a new dish.

The paths of Horace and Rüya intersect at Strawberry Hill. Horace listens to Rüya’s stories to discover the missing piece of the meal to complete his passion. Rüya begins to narrate different dishes belonging to Turkey, the world’s gastronomic capital, with a perspective synthesised with human psychology and drama.

The captivating allure of English history seamlessly merges with the picturesque beauty of Turkey’s cities.
